The RTL-SDR device, it is a software defined radio that you can use to to start discover the spectrum world. Probably the most general purpose of this tiny giant is the reception TV signal through the standard DVB-T. The heart is a RTL2832U chipset, it delivers samples with an 8-bit resolution (not so good, but for the price, it is okey) at a bandwidth up to 2.4 MHz (yes, there are some signals that are over the air and that you can explore, one example may be FM signal coming from your local ratio station). It is tiny, most of the dongles around the market comes with an antenna (not so neat, I recommend you grab one with better performance) so you can start working with it. Comparing with other SDRs, this is a great option for thoses who are looking for to start as a ham radio or doing research. GNU Radio, the facto software used to work with SDRs, contains a two blocks from the package osmocom that you can use them and set the common parameters as if you will use the software shell rtl command, however, you can do more with that, since you have a broad set of processing blocks that will help you to understand more about DSP. I forgot to mention that you can use a Rasbpberry Pi with GNU Radio and RTL-SDR? This is obviously if you are not using some really hard processing on the software side. Somebody have work with the RTL-SDR? Share with me!

Last Monday before the Holidays! I like my job and all, but 2 weeks of sleeping in and doing nothing are more than welcome. But until then, I've got to work, complete the most tasks I can and try not to leave on Thursday with incomplete tasks. •• When are your vacations starting? Do you plan on doing something special or stay home and relax?
