Every time I close my eyes,
I escape out to a place,
Where I can let myself be free,
To feel the warmth of love's embrace,
The real word can't find me here,
The people make me smile,
A place where being truly you
is the only thing in style.
In this dream that I have created,
I have more than my share of friends,
The kind that never leave your side,
Until your troubles end,
The sun is always shining,
But even if it rains,
It's still a better option
Than opening my eyes again.
Yes, I am still alive! ·
I am feeling much better in terms of having better energy levels compared to the start of the year. I am still trying to figure out how to balance my time between self-care, work, blogging, and social media. But it is a bit easier knowing that my happiness and wellbeing should always come first, or I won’t be productive anyway!
This photo has been utterly late getting posted but I really want to show my appreciation for all the books and book-related items I get sent. Thank you so much, @meetbookgirl because these cheered me up when last Christmas, and now I cannot wait to expand my reading to crime fiction!
Crime isn’t a genre I usually dip my toes in (although I do make an exception for cozy crime!) but I’ve always liked going down the off-beaten path once in a while, and these are perfect to help me stretch out of my reading comfort zone!
I’m curious, though: which genre/s would you personally never attempt to try and read?

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way,
Where many paths and errands meet.

It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.
I quite like listening to classical music now and then. Unfortunately, my knowledge of it is very limited. Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Haydn were from my very brief time of piano lessons, and then heard bits from Bach, Brahms, Chopin, Tchaikovsky...Vivaldi...Pachelbel.

(Can we give Canon in D Major a bit of a break, please?)

I really want to expand my classical music playlist though, so the moment I saw this book on @publicitybooks Twitter feed, I made a note to own it -- either by buying it myself or putting it down on my Christmas wishlist.

I got it for myself in the end, during the Christmas season! I wasn’t feeling too patient to wait for the next gift-giving occasion. :D Besides, I wanted to use it at the beginning of the year. My morning “ritual” now involves a short piece of classical music -- with a wonderful write up accompanying it to let the reader know some facts about the piece or the composer -- while having breakfast!

As a sample -- today’s piece is Giuseppi Verdi’s Requiem Mass 3: Offertorio: Domine Jesu Christe, and Clemency Burton-Hill shared a story about how a score of the piece has been smuggled into the Nazi concentration camp Terezin, and a group of Jewish prisoners decided to mount a performance of it as an act of defiance and spiritual resistance. It started with 150 prisoners, until they gradually dropped to just a handful, as prisoners were deported to Auschwitz.

Do you listen to classical music? What’s your favourite piece?

Isn’t this proof absolutely stunning?? The cover is already a joy to look at, but that toy soldier spray painted on the side edges is a brilliant touch. In the past two years, we saw a lot of books with solid spray-painted edges. I’m guessing we’ll start seeing variations of spray paint edges (silhouettes, words, what have you) in no time!
I’ve heard raves about #TheToymakers since October last year, and some have even compared it to The Night Circus. I do hope it improves on the lack-of-proper-plot part of The Night Circus though. #sorrynotsorry
Otherwise, this book is right up my alley! Fantasy, magical realism, historical fiction set in London -- my interest has been thoroughly piqued. It’s slated to be published on the 8th of February, so I will attempt to read it before then! #January2018TBR
How are you starting your reading year? Or should the question be, how *have* you started your reading year? 😜
Wishing you all a magical weekend ✨💖

The Girl Who was Afraid to Be
She speaks to me fondly
of passions and talents, guitars and stars.
Then stops shorts
and apologizes for speaking at all.
All because somewhere in her life,
someone she loved broke her heart
by ignoring her beautiful words
and telling her to
shut up,
keep it down,
nobody cares.

Happy #floralfriday! 💐
Although, does it count if the florals are illustrated and on the book cover? I suppose #bookishfloralfriday is more appropriate? Heh. 😁🌹📖
These two books form part of my #January2018TBR (third one will be featured this weekend!). Most timely, because (1) I’ve been told The Bear and the Nightingale is a perfect winter read, and (2) The Girl in the Tower, book 2 of the #WinternightTrilogy is out on the 25th of January! (The US readers got theirs since the 5th of December though, I think)
I nabbed the The Girl in the Tower proof copy from the @penguinplatform Christmas party last year, and it was great fun meeting other book lovers and fanatics, like the very cute @teabooksandtazmyn ♥ Thank you muchly for the invite, @booksandquills 💗
How happy are you for the weekend?! I know we’ve all just come back from holidays and the first week is always difficult. I’m already playing catch up with sleep on the 5th day of the year. How has your first week back been like? ·

As time passes, the day will come when everything will fade to memories. But those miraculous days, when you and I, along with everyone else, searched together for just that one thing, will continue revolving forever somewhere deep in my heart, as my bittersweet memory.

Each time I told my story, I lost a bit, the smallest drop of pain. It was that day that I knew I wanted to tell the story of my family. Because horror on Earth is real and it is every day. It is like a flower or like the sun; it cannot be contained.

So, I close my eyes to old ends.
And open my heart to new beginnings.

Roses aren't always red
and violets aren't exactly blue.
The society that we live in
never seems to speak the truth.
Smiles aren't always happy
and frowns aren't always upset,
people judge too quickly
and our feelings are what they forget.

Only one day and a half left for New Year!!!
I wanted to finish so many books and do so much more.
But I won't deny that I achieved hell lot of my aims this year and m hopeful to attain many more this coming year. #fingerscrossed
Although I have not jotted down my #newyearresolution yet. Actually I am not in favor of having resolutions only on first day of the year. I am of the opinion that every day is an opportunity to start afresh.
This year, I plan to dedicate more time to #reading .
What's your new year resolution? 👇

Your mind will always believe everything you tell it. Feed it faith. Feed it truth. Feed it with love.
