Been feeling pretty sick for the last few days, and I know I'm not the only one! Here's hoping my other sick friends and I are feeling better for church on Sunday!

Today in the Greek/Byzantine Catholic Churches, Genesis 50 was read as the first reading during Presanctified Liturgy. Genesis 50 speaks about the burial of Prophet Jacob that was command by his son Joseph to his servants in whom were Physicians. In Verses 2 -3, the scriptures mention how the body of Jacob was embalmed; later to be buried in a cave by his sons in verse 13 after 40 days since this was the custom of the Egyptians. This scripture is read to point to Great Lent in which is 40 days, which later concludes with the burial of Jesus Christ; in who also gets anointed after physical death, however; with oils and spices to later be wrapped in Linen. (Luke 23:56, John 19:39-40). This is because the Old Testament Prophets prefigure Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah. Nobody says it clearer than St Augustine: “The New Testament is hidden in the Old, and the Old Testament is fulfilled in the New.” #Jesus #Christ #GreatLent #Lent #Bible #Scripture #OldTestament #NewTestament #Christianity #Christian #PresanctifiedLiturgy #Vespers #Genesis #Pascha #Easter #Catholic #Catholicism #Church #Melkite #Coptic #Chaldean #Orthodox #Maronite #Amen
