Mosquitos – the persistent little insects that never stop biting. They are the cause of a lot of diseases. Ranging from malaria to zika virus and dengue, all these diseases are caused by mosquitos. Even if there is a low risk of spread of disease in your region, mosquitos are still disturbing. They never stop bugging you and their bites result in itching. Therefore, it is important to get rid of them.
People use different means to get rid of mosquitos. These include natural, homemade and synthetic mosquito repellants. There are natural oil sprays and tools that get rid of mosquitos.

1 – Mosquito trap
Mosquito traps are the easiest solution to use. They have a series of special photocatalyst lights that attract mosquitos. When they reach the light, it kills them. Similarly, there are some other natural traps that do not burn them but instead capture them. These traps also have this special light that attracts the mosquitos towards them. When they try to get close to the light, the fan captures them.

2 – Chemical repellents
You can easily find different mosquito repellents in the market. They are chemical solutions that repel the mosquitos. These products use a product “DEET”. Although it is best for repelling mosquitos, it is not safe to use after a certain concentration. Therefore, you should only use repellents that contain 50 percent and less concentration. Otherwise, it will harm your skin.
DEET lasts for 12 hours. Therefore, you can use it before going to sleep or after the sunset. It will protect you against mosquitos for the whole night.
The maximum concentration for adults is 50 percent, so you should not use any product with a limit exceeding this. The safe limit for children is 30 percent and less. Therefore, you should mind the safe limits before buying chemical repellents.
3 – Fix the gaps
One of the main entry points for mosquitoes is the gaps in screens, windows, doors, and other places. So if there are any gaps in your home that can allow mosquitoes to enter, you should close them. They won’t do you any good.
The problem is with the identification of these holes and gaps. You can find them during the daytime. see if there is any light coming in from the gaps, mark these places. Now, use any mixture to block these gaps or you can just use a tape or a piece of cloth.
4 – Using nets and traps
Another trick that you can use to repel mosquitoes is using a net. There are nets in the market that are in the shape of a sleeping bag. All you need to do is open the zip, go in the net, close the zip and sleep peacefully
Another type of net is in the shape of a hanging lantern. There is a hook on top of the net, you will use this to hang the net. The hole net will fall down around your bed. Thus, you will get an enclosed space just like a princess’s bed.
These are the two types of nets that are easily available in the market that you can purchase. Finally, you will have a good night’s sleep without the mosquitoes buzzing in your ears.
Or you can make the hanging net by yourself. All you need to do is buy a lot of net from the market and use it to cover your bed so that no insect can enter inside.
5 – Create your own mosquito traps
Instead of buying a trap from the market, you can create your own.
Follow these steps;
- Get an empty plastic bottle and cut into two halves
- Now flip one-half upside down and tuck the other one on the lower side of the bottle
- Now create a mixture of sugar and water. Get one cup of sugar and three cups of water and boil them together to make a sugary mixture.
- Let the mixture cool until it reaches 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Once you get the temperature, you need to put a tsp. of dry yeast in this mixture.
- Now pour this mixture into the bottle trap
- Secure the bottles with a tape
This sugary mixture will attract bugs and mosquitos and won’t let them tease you. Once this mixture is no longer useful, you can replace it by creating a new one.
6 – Use essential oils
There are different essential oils that repel mosquitos. You can make a mixture of these oils to form a spray. Use it on your body and get rid of mosquito bites.
You can create the mixture by adding a few drops of essential oil to a bottle of water. You can spray this mixture on the exposed parts of your body and sleep peacefully. Now coming towards the oils that you can use;
- Neem oil
- Coconut oil
- Greek catmint oil
- Thyme oil
- Cinnamon oil
- Lavender
- Lemon – eucalyptus oil
- Soybean oil
- Citronella
- Tea tree oil
- Geraniol
All these oils are the best natural mosquito repellents. You can use them to have a safe time.
7 – Some other natural repellents
Apart from essential oils, there are some other products that work amazingly against mosquitos. These include;
- Garlic – smash it and use it on your body parts
- Citronella or essential oil candles
- Camphor is also a natural disinfectant and antibacterial product. You can use it directly on your body or burn it in the room
- Burn some rosemary and sage leaves. It will smell good and will also repel bugs and pests.
