fredgranath Another special moment was when we encountered a polar bear mother with two cubs along the edge of the pack-ice. It was in early March and the sun had colored eveything red - the most insane, dark-red you can ever imagine. The bear family was finishing off a seal dinner. They were far away, but since the other direction was open water, I knew they’d come towards us once they had eaten. So we sat down, waiting. Minutes passed. An hour. The red colors intensified. Finally the bears started walking in our direction. The polar bear mother in the middle, with a cub on each side, slowly walking straight towards us. Black silhouettes against the dark-red sun. It was the most beautiful scene I’ve ever witnessed. I gasped for air. But as they came closer, and my eyes started to adjust to the light, their faces began appearing. They were all covered in blood from that last meal. And they were looking me straight in the eye, all three of them. The tones of Beethoven quickly changed to something from a Hitchcock movie. The beautiful sunset turned into a horror movie. They were coming for dessert. 5h

travisdwoo Front line of the #forest. These #trees are on hard times. Record #drought but locals saying #climatechange. #redwoods starting to show the effects. That one on the right has got no rain and been too short to drink the fog in years. #dying #treepower #greenmana #treefolk 7h

amazonaid Incredible carbon map of the Peruvian Amazon. The #Carnegie Airborne Observatory imaged this fragmented Amazonian landscape affected by #deforestation. The largest trees, and thus the highest carbon stocks, are shown in red. Blue areas are cattle pastures had boring extremely low carbon stocks, with the small exception of the individual trees remaining in the clearings. #climatechange #science #map #technology #rainforest #amazon #peru 7h

andersonandersonarchitecture Beautiful ceiling #structure on #pier17 of the #SanFrancisco #waterfront. Vulnerable to the effects of #ClimateChange, #RisingWater. Will the efforts of our #Architecture #students at #CCA #CaliforniaCollegeOfTheArts help to save this #structure and ones like it, or will they propose new solutions worthy of taking it's place? Stay tuned for a Fall collaboration with the students, co-teachers #Oblio Jenkins and #peteranderson, and #exploratorium #BayObservatory team. 9h
