ib2isme Familiar Faces Project Day 11: Yesterday at Urban Outfitters I met Brett Morrison. After looking for like 10 things in my size (efforts in which we were only mildly successful) we chit chatted for a little about how he liked working there and also at the Melting Pot. He's also a coach for the FSU men's club soccer team, which I thought was super cool since he's only 22 and also because soccer is such a big part of my life. He used to play central attacking mid but has had no time to play between his two jobs and coaching every day. He has a degree in sports management and wants to get into managing/coaching bigger soccer clubs in the future. We chatted about some people we both know and his love for chipotle before I had to go catch a bus to chipotle, and left him sobbing in jealousy. 2mon

ib2isme Familiar Faces Project Day 10: Today I came across a man on campus who was promoting the Bhagavad Gita. His name was Prithu, and he told me about his beliefs about our lives being entirely spiritual where that spirit lives on eternally while the biochemical bodies we focus on so much wither away. He taught me about his beliefs in reincarnation, of sorts, where karma and desire are main deciding factors on which form you are reborn as after your spirit transfers out of one living body into another upon death. He said one could even be reborn as an animal if he or she lives his/her life by the animal qualities of eating, sleeping, mating, and defending only. He went on to tell me that goodness, passion, and ignorance are the three modes of material nature and that one must strive to not only focus on those attributes so that all of our thought isn't about material objects and ideas. We talked about how karma works and what is and isn't considered material thought but I won't go into it since I've already written a lot. He gave me an into/beginners guide to the Bhagavad Gita too, so if anyone wants to read it, let me know and you can borrow it. Thanks for reading! And sorry I was inactive the other day; I was sick. 2mon

ib2isme PLEASE READ THIS AND COMMENT WITH THOUGHTS: One more obnoxious selfie today to explain to you guys more about my Familiar Faces Project: I've been getting lots of people telling me this is a lot like humans of New York, which I agree with. The difference is that I'm sharing with you my personal experiences with these people, whereas you might have a completely different one with the same person. I'm including all of you in our conversation and telling it to you like I would tell you over coffee or something. The point of this project is to show people that others are approachable and interesting, and to give you all an excuse to talk to those people. Your excuse is that you're doing it for #ffp. The difference between The Familiar Faces Project and Humans of New York is that you all can take part in it, even if it's for a day or just every once in a while. It makes sure that you have a genuine conversation with the person that's not about school or other bland topics that we all have pre-recorded responses to in order to make small talk at a party. It makes you want to really get to know what a person is about on a personal level, and even if your initial motivation is to get enough info to post on social media, then so be it. If that's what it takes for people to start feeling like its normal again to just talk to a person without the use of social media, then I'll feel like this project is a success. I hope one of these days some of you will do this, even if it's just for a day, and share your experience. Throw the hashtag #ffp in there too and let's start something! With that being said, I'll probably post about a month's worth on here and I'm in the process of making a separate Instagram and Tumblr blog for these posts, on which I'll be posting my daily experiences as well as others which people send me. I'll still share some of the super interesting ones on facebook and this Instagram account though for those of you who like to keep up with it. Sorry for the essay but I just had to get all that out there. You guys are top notch! (That includes my cynic friends out there rolling their eyes at these posts) 2mon
  •   ashtotheman A definitely good damn! *pound it* 2mon
  •   hunteranger Awesome 2mon
  •   _life0fnesi this is a wonderful project. do not listen to anyone who accuses you for copying another project...like wth? even IF you did..in the end it is a non-profit thing that is there to inspire yourself and other people so where's the problem?...some really need to take a chill pill and start doing a positive project themselves instead of trying to pull others down through a damn screen 2mon
  •   eenzpeenz this is awesome man 2mon
  •   viniasventures Love it! 2mon
  •   schrinkenbrotchen @ib2isme you should try and get involved with the FSU newspaper or something of that kind with this, think it would be a seriously awesome article to read all of your experiences. 2mon
  •   ib2isme @eenzpeenz @_life0fnesi @hunteranger @viniasventures I appreciate the sentiment guys! And @schrinkenbrotchen that's a good idea actually I'll look into it 2mon
  •   schrinkenbrotchen You should! Just because of its similarity of humans of New York but much more personal from the writers perspective giving it the appeal that I think they will see and focuses on your time at school. @ib2isme let me know how that turns out! 2mon

ib2isme Familiar Faces Project Day 9: Tuesday I met Jessica Larimer who I met outside at a picnic table by the library. She was studying mythology and we talked about how lots of stories in different religions and cultures are the same with certain differences in each one, and the fact that it was controversial that they were teaching religious stories in a mythology class. Jessica is an environmentalist and talked to me about our future in renewable energy sources. Over spring break she camped at St. Vincent island with the environmental awareness club she's in and they worked to make sure the area was clean and safe for incoming sea turtles to lay their eggs on the beach. 2mon

ib2isme Familiar Faces Project Day 8: So I didn't have any time the past couple of days to post on here but I have been keeping up with meeting new people so I'll post a few at once today (sorry!) Monday I met this guy John who I found spinning a 6 foot staff out on landis green on FSU campus. He told me the art is called poi and is usually done with flail-like instruments. Now for the really cool part: when he performs he sets the ends of the staff on fire while he spins it and does tricks with it. His specific version is called firestaff (pretty self explanatory) but there are other forms. If you were wondering, yes he has been burnt by it several times and he says it hurts like hell to accidentally whack yourself with it. He started 6 months ago and is looking forward to performing in a festival soon. "I'm like Ricky Bobby man, I wanna go fast." Is his mantra on his poi performance. 2mon

ib2isme Familiar Faces Project Day 7: Today my adventures on campus led me to meet this girl named Amber. She's from a small part of New York and decided to come to FSU to get involved in the college of music here. She had a guitar with her on which she plays classical pieces, which is something I've never heard of anyone doing. Amber wants to use this as a means for musical therapy for those who need it for rehabilitation. Amber also shared with me her experience with a medical outreach program she did in the Honduras where she did lots of dental work on those who needed it. A quick tidbit that stood out to me was that they had to teach adults there how to use a toothbrush since they'd never seen one. That really puts into perspective how much we take for granted that we're so accustomed to seeing so much they become invisible to us til we need/use them. Amber and I also went on about how different the stars look from different cities and how interested she is in fashion and singing, but I won't make y'all read all that. Anyway, I'm glad I got to have such a well rounded conversation today and I still encourage you guys to do this with me one of these days. Thanks for reading and keeping me motivated everyone! Lately my days have been made by all this positive feedback. #ffp #guitar #music #newyork #nyc #Fsu #seminoles #fashion 3mon
