#Truth above all else! #repost from @iamshellieb - This book made me so sad and angry I was in tears😢. I had never heard of Vivian Thomas (Bet Dr. Ben Johnson has) 🤔 That's what makes this story hurt even more. Bottom line is Vivian Thomas pioneered heart surgery in babies. Did all the research, created the delicate tiny instruments needed to do the surgery. No one would do surgery on babies at that time. They just let them die. He had no degree medicine. He lost his money for school during the depression. But was a genius. Of course they were hating on him and he never got into school. Cut along story short... He taught white university surgeons the procedure and saved countless babies lives. The white guys blow up and no one ever hears of Vivian Thomas.😡 Then 26 later he gets an honorary doctrine and finally named Faculty. Instructor Of Surgery? That's crazy. These are just a few of the ones that were discovered. Im sure there are countless ones... But still we rise. ✊🏾 Shiloh was most fascinated buy the baby hearts and how scary it must have been to work on the babies. Agreed! That's how much faith he had in himself Son! That's crazy. He would stand over the doctors shoulder and tell him everything to do all the angles. How to sew it. It's crazy. Over a 150 surgeries he instructed. Got no credit whatsoever. I have heard this story but didn't know it fully. #vivienthomas #blackhistory365 #blackgenius #heartsurgery #tinystiches #booksforbrownkids #booksforkids #readinisfundamental #yourgonnalearntoday - #regrann

This book is about the journey of Alvin Ailey's present Artistic Director Robert Battle. This is a library book and Shiloh asked me to buy this book for him. I enjoyed it too. Battle had very bad bowed legs as a child. He wore painful braces to correct his legs. He started dancing late in life in his early teens ( I think 13!) and still got accepted to Juilliard. He was an amazing artist and became the leader of one of the most amazing dance companies in the world! Shiloh was very impressed what he achieved being born with badly bowed legs. Battle studied martial arts and incorporated those moves into his dancing. And he was in awe about the similarities between martial arts and dance. Really a wonderful story. We watched some of his dances on YouTube and I promised Shiloh to take him to an Ailey show. #robertbattle #alvinailey #booksforbrownkids #booksforkids #bookstoinspire #blackhistory365 #readingisfundamental #yourgonnalearntoday

I liked this book Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews actually wrote this book. He speaks of how much he loved music. He found an old trombone and taught himself to play. Showed Shiloh how important practice is. To master what you love. At a very young age he had his own band and traveled the world doing something he loved. Shiloh loved this book because our cousin @biviens also plays the trombone and also from a young age as well. So Shiloh kept mentioning Chris and that he wants to play an instrument too. The author also speaks of always coming back and helping to inspire those in your community. I was. I was very impressed at what this young musician had accomplished and his book did exactly what he wanted it to for Shiloh. Inspire. #booksforkids orbrown #booksforkids #tromboneshorty #troytromboneshorty ##bookstoinspire #readingisfundamental #yourgonnalearntoday
