Our #BiosphereReserveOfTheDay is Mananara Nord #Madagascar

The Mananara Nord Biosphere Reserve is located on the north-east coast of Madagascar and covers an area of 140,000 hectares. Madagascar has an extremely rich biodiversity with more than 85 percent of its species being endemic. Small mammals are especially well represented: 17 rodents and 13 lemur species live in these humid forests, such as aye-aye, eastern woolly lemur, brown mouse lemur and the biggest of all lemurs, the indri.
The majority of the population are farmers. The most important crop is cloves, while other important products are coffee and vanilla. Fishing is another main economic activity.
