I believe this is a #precolumbian #textile, but it was kind of a "grab a snapshot without remembering to read signage carefully" kind of moment.

This was one of my pieces in the curated textile show. A bit cheeky, but who isn’t? 😉 Unfortunately it was stolen in a 20 minute time period that no one was in the gallery. 😭. If you see it around, I want it back. #ufv #ufvvisualarts #fraservalley #stolen #silk #abbotsford #textile #silkscarf #scarf

Slightly delayed posting due to spending last week in the incredible and complex world of Chiso.
I visited and worked with over 15 kimono craftsman, who each specialise in a different part of the stunning Yuzen process. From design, shibori, resist, ground dyeing, hand painting, embroidery, gold/silver gilding and everything in between, this kimono company has worked since 1555 with the absolute best Kyoto craftsmen (and they have the archive to prove it). I’m working through the hundreds of photos, audio recordings and notes to compile a couple of blog posts - but in the meantime here are some shots of the stunning factory of the ground dyers... absolute masters of the brush.
The skill it takes to apply dye consistently from one length of the kimono silk to the other is monumental, as it is imperative the finished garment is one seamless colour. They are also experts at achieving soft, gradated patterns using various brushes and water to create surprisingly complex designs.
