This establishment is among the oldest, if not THE oldest, in the city of Savannah. Formerly a parcel of land that had an orchard for cultivating peach and cotton, and a small residential area for James Oglethorpe’s select botanists in the early 1700’s, this area was called the Herb House /hehe/. However, around 1754, the fledgling city was quickly turning into a port town. This led to the repurposing of the Herb House to an inn-tavern they named the Pirates’ House, which they transformed for the weary sailors that sought refuge from the stormy waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

More years down the line, and much like what happens to places of historical significance, it was turned into a museum. My readings don’t pointedly say that’s the main reason, but coupled with the preservation, I’m also inclined to believe that the business failed to keep up with the ever-changing commercial landscape.
.
It wasn’t until 1948, right in the beginning of the postwar economic boom, that the museum was purchased and renovated into the rustic nautically-themed Southern restaurant that people frequent today. #arolaroundtheworld

Having a look through some images from last year’s trip to Norway. Same location, a year apart - the water we watched the northern lights reflect on back in 2017 was completely frozen over this year. Sometimes it just takes a day or two for the same spot to look completely different. In thinking about future trips, I’m excited to see how different the landscapes will be during alternate seasons!
