We explored an Estonian pre-war icebreaker called Suur Tõll. As interesting as getting a glimpse of how life on board was, what really surprised me was its crazy timeline. It was built for Imperial Russia (and later used in the First World War, escaping in one piece - which as I’ve been told is nothing short of a miracle). A few years later it was taken over by the Soviet Union.... Who lost it to the Finns... Who eventually handed it back to Estonia. And that story could have ended there, except in the meantime Estonia was occupied by Soviet Union and the ship remained in their power for another 45 years. Eventually the Estonians were able to buy it and restore it. All of that in 74 years. Talk about a rough trip home.

Joy often waits just behind the ordinary.

It can be so easy to walk down the road of resentment. It slopes downward, slippery, and is easy to get stuck in. The road of gratitude instead crests upward. It can be a challenging climb.

But if you grab hold of the many small, seemingly insignificant ordinary things in life for which you can be grateful—a smile, a good meal, a home—the ascent is not quite so daunting.

May we all be successful in that climb.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone 🦃🍁🍂🍃 @passionpassport #PPGratefulFor

much has been written in the last few days on the Belgian winners of Gault&Millau. granted, we only ate in very few of the recognized #restaurants so we have a lot of ‘work’ ahead of us in 2018. here our lunch at La Paix * (17/20) (review on the blog)
yesterday was a big day for restaurants in #Belgium. The Michelin Guide awarded its ⭐️ there were many winners. and some losers. congratulations to all ✨ we have ‘only’ eaten out in 3 Michelin starred restaurants in Belgium. you? which one?
