glo uses site specificity to give context to our social performance. Working deeply with all kinds of communities makes us pay attention and invest in small details. Last week when we opened the research process of our our new #pastoral project, we did so for 7 continuous days of 23 civic actions in 5 towns across 450 square miles for over 700 children and many people. This is what social performance looks like in Georgia. “By learning, you will teach; by teaching, you will learn.” ~Latin proverb. Was good to get fuel with teaching strategies, resources, and networking at the 97th NCSS conference (National Council on Social Studies) in San Francisco. #3211 #socials #socialstudies #geography #tech #globalization @Regranned from @theeconomist - A decade after mobile phones began to spread in Africa, they have become commonplace even in the continent’s poorest countries. In most African countries, less than half the population has access to electricity. Yet in much of the continent people with mobile phones outnumber those with electricity. The devices have transformed the lives of hundreds of millions. Mobile-money services have in effect created personal bank accounts that people can carry in their pockets. By one estimate, the M-Pesa mobile-money system alone lifted about 2% of Kenyan households out of poverty between 2008 and 2014. Technology cannot solve all of Africa’s problems, but it can help with many. #DailyChart #TheEconomist
