❄️🤔”How many holes will your snowflake have when you open it?”❄️ This was a favorite January activity in my kindergarten classroom! ❄️ Setting up a Snowflake Station was so inviting and after a day or two of learning how to fold the small squares and cut out pieces, I would then add this inquiry.🔷 I’d fold my snowflake in front of the class and before I opened it I’d ask them to guess how many holes it would have when unfolded.🤔 After taking a few estimates I’d slowly unfold it and...ta-da! 👏🏻😳 Their little faces!😂 It’s like a magic trick to them!👊🏻😅 This activity enriched the Snowflake Station, as they would now snip, open, count, ponder, snip again, etc, etc!!✂️🤔 Introducing more difficult math concepts like estimation, symmetry and multiplication are such fun when play is the basis!💪🏻 Not asking for mastery, but posing great questions, always leads to wonderful and memorable learning! ❄️🙌🏻 And cleaning up the tiny flakes afterward is great fine motor for their little pincher grasps!!👌🏻❄️ Enjoy the wonders of this winter month with your little snow angels!!❄️✂️🔷 #earlymathskills #earlychildhoodeducation #preschoolers #kindergarten #kindergartenteacher #4yearolds #5yearolds #6yearolds #estimationskills #teachingestimation #finemotoractivities #wintersctivities #snowactivities #scissorsskills #teachingscissorcutting #playfullearning #januaryactivities ##mimilove #forthechildrenco

This cute penguin themed sensory bin was the perfect way to end our penguin unit! We added fake snow , plastic penguin toys, blue marble for water and plastic eggs to fill with snow. Open ended play like this is always a win win with young children and it’s gives endless opportunities for imagination and creativity to develop! #snowactivities #penguinactivitiesforkids #wintertheme#sensoryplay #teachersofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers #iteachtoo #toddlersofinstagram #totschooling
