Happy Spring Equinox! Today I honor Indigo, the ancient plant-based dye I use to create many of my designs. Indigo dyed cloth dates back 5,000 years and is still used today to color our blue jeans! Indigo fabrics have been discovered in ancient Egyptian tombs and around the world in archeological ruins such as: Guatemala, Peru, China, Africa and Japan. These fabrics were commonly worn as part of religious rituals and ceremony. I love artful expressions of indigo across cultures and am so grateful for this mystical dye as it has allowed for me to create my own ritual of healing and expression. The dying process has shown me how to use my own two hands to heal heartbreak, taught me patience and trust to grieve and helped me understand that within artistic expression there is no such thing as a mistake 💫

Inspired by artist friend @jaylovespie who was throwing humongous pots that day in the studio, I decided to try one of my own, the largest I had attempted at the time: six pounds of clay. It made it all the way through the first bisque firing but after glazing, the kiln cooled too fast, and uneven temperatures caused a hairline crack on one side. But it's perfectly functional and this means my prayer plant gets a new home 🎉🎉🎉
