Another shot of an in-situ Ranitomeya, this time R. imitator. This photo shows where these tiny little poison frogs tend to spend a large chunk of the day, especially the hotter parts. These plant axils typically contain just a little bit of water where these frogs will eventually deposit their tadpoles. These tiny pools of water don't have any competitors like larger tadpoles or dragonfly larvae so the tadpoles is able to grow in a safe environment. Only one problem, there also isn't enough food to survive on in such a small pool. So the male will repeatedly check up on the tadpoles and when it's time he will find the female and bring her to the tadpoles for whom she will deposit an unfertilized egg to feed on! .
