Today's writing inspiration: 😍🌱
And things I've learned in my research:
1) The African blue-eyed Daisy closes itself at night and opens fully in direct sunlight.
2) Africa is one of the biggest flower exporters in the world
3) the Jacobin cuckoo of Africa drinks only rain water
4) the Calla Lily is native to Africa

"What is the Kundalini? The creative potential of the man."
~ Yogi Bhajan ✨ the Balinese have a daily ritual at least once a day and for some many are made throughout the day. I am often reminded when witnessing an offering, to stop BE present and BE grateful for whatever is happening for me at that moment. Sometimes when my day is challenging I am reminded to take a deep conscious inhale and exhale. 🍃 What sort of offerings or rituals do you make through the day that help you to be more conscious and present especially when having a challenging day? #dailypractice #elevateYOU #vibratehigher #yogibhajan #kubdaliniyogini #kundaliniyoga #kundalinimeditation #presentandgrateful #challengesbringgifts #IAmAquarianWoman

With life as my green screen, I’ve realized that I can adapt to any scene. 2017 has been such a year of growth for me, and I am truly grateful for everything that has happened and everything on its way. We may not see the future, but we see ourselves. It is our job to make sure we are fit and ready for what life brings. I am more than ready!✨🍭#godisreal #theuniverselistens #prayeveryday #happysunday #readyforsuccess #stronger #presentandgrateful #happy #learningingrowth #thesugarzine

Just posting to excuse my absence! The Smart Pants Fam and I are just busy enjoying the season! It has been impossible to pull myself away from perfect family moments to be present online! I will work on that! For now, remember that it’s okay to step away from the internet and really enjoy the people who actively and truly care about you and your family! I wouldn’t change a thing!

I know it's only Tuesday - but this bottle of bubbly has been waiting in the fridge for a week - and it's not every day (or indeed every year or even decade!) that a tyrant, dictator and oppressor admits defeat, so here's to the land my family & I knew and loved and here's to dreams of a better future for those who remain there today.
Today Zimbabweans celebrate the end of an era.
Tomorrow is the day for tough questions to be answered and for democracy to prevail.
My hope is that this beautiful land, with its peace loving, people can come together and rid themselves of dictatorship forever.
On a personal note, I long to return.
To take my hubby & child to the country I loved to visit as a child, the place my parents call home.
I was born in South Africa, but all my family are from what was Rhodesia.
My grandparents farmed all their life near Harare, where we used to spend summers visiting.
My fondest memories are from here.
My grandfathers ashes were scattered on this farm when he died.
Not long after his passing, the farm was occupied; taken, repossessed - whatever you want to call it - by war veterans.
Luckily my grandmother was spared the beatings, torture and murder which befell so many farmers in Zimbabwe, as she had come to live with us temporarily in South Africa.
But she lost everything. We lost everything that was so dear to us.
A whole life's hard work, gone in a instance.
As it did for the majority of Zimbabweans over the following years.
We cannot look back with anger and hatred.
We can only accept what happened and try not to let resentment live in our hearts.
I know many people think that European settlers got what they deserved, but my grandparents were born in Africa and knew no other place to call home.
We don't want the farm back, we don't want anything back - but I would like to be able to go and visit my grandfathers ashes (or at least the place they were scattered) and be near the only place he knew to call home, once more.
For now tonight, I can't help but remember those wonderful times we had in Zimbabwe, and hope that one day the country can be proud of itself again.
Today is certainly the start.
Big shout out to my move your ass Monday crew! Take a moment if you haven’t done so yet and be truly THANKFUL for what you were able to do today. ♥️ #blessedtobeable #moveyourassmonday #presentandgrateful #appreciatechallenge #givemeals #feedabillion #HHbMgivesback

Nothing like enjoying sunshine, sitting inside on a chilly day, while reading a good book.
That is the good stuff. 💗😁☀

Flowers in a vase and a fluffy companion.
Zoom out a bit - oh there's what I'm really doing: ironing!!!! 😹
The ideal and the reality....
It's all about perspective!
(and what we choose to show, more often than not!)
🍂autumn🍂 usually invokes in me a mourning of the end of summer and the dread of cold weather coming. This year, I don’t recognize myself. Absolutely loving this fall weekend just for what it is (and not distracted by what it is not). #choosehappy #inthemoment #presentandgrateful

Feeling the love for nature. Just look at all these colours, shapes and textures!
Whilst my daughter is on half term holidays, spending days midweek, just being outdoors in nature feels like such a welcome breath of fresh air.
During term time, I tell myself that every so often I will say: "to hang with the chores", and just take a day out to go and do the kind of things we do while she's on holiday...
But somehow when it's just me, and I'm only doing it for my own pleasure it feels like something too enjoyable, too decadent...
I should be at home, getting on with the chores. I feel like in some way I need to justify my "stay at home" status by doing those jobs to the nth degree - making all our food from scratch, never getting behind on the ironing, you get the picture.... Some unspoken sense of duty as a SAHM making me feel like if I'm not at home then I'm shirking on the job.
So I squeeze in a run, short walk or cycle and keep the all-day exploring for weekends - like everyone else who works Mon-Fri...

But then when I am here, hanging out midweek, just soaking it all in, I think: hang on a minute - No.
If I can't fit a full day, every now and again, to just be where I am happiest, by myself, midweek, hanging out in the great outdoors, then I'm trying to please someone or prove something, which doesn't exist.
So next term, I'm going to get out and have the day out, just me and the great outdoors.
Ironing can wait.
Or I can be a bit more clever with my time.
No more guilty feelings.
No more "guilty pleasures".
Just pleasures.
And priorities.
Prioritise what matters. Full stop. Life's too short.
Who's with me??
Today marks the five year anniversary of this #shitsandwich of a day when Chip and I received his Stage IV cancer diagnosis. And today, approximately 609 people will also receive a lung cancer diagnosis. 609 people already found out yesterday, and another 609 will learn this tomorrow. Everyday, 609 people will start scrambling for resources, have to let their family and friends know, fire off an email to their colleagues letting them know they won't be returning to the office that afternoon. They'll have to go pick up their kids from school and maybe even fulfill a promise to their son to take him to #booatthezoo. The thought of 609 people experiencing this every single day makes my heart and my head ache in inexplicable ways. So today, when I feel overwhelmed by the weight of it all, I turn back to the very thing that sustained me then, and I exercise being #presentandgrateful.
My plea on this day each and every year remains the same: Love those around you relentlessly. Abandon anger. Choose happy. Find joy. Be present. Practice gratitude. Honor your breath.
And because it's #throwbackthursday, I have attached a link to one of my favorite videos in my profile. It certainly made me happy to see this today! We've got this.
