18.3: Every Rep Should Be Worth Fighting For!
I recall watching the announcement of 18.3 last Thursday and as I watched some of the top athletes perform and fail at finishing the workout before the time expired, I pretty much wrote off the entire thing and thought "there is no way I'm even going to try to do this RX so it's WHATEVER!". I showed up Friday and just figured I'd probably breeze through the first few movements realizing that I would undoubtedly get stuck at the first set of pull-ups. I was absolutely certain that I would not make it through the 12 pull ups required to complete before moving on to the rest of the workout. So imagine my surprise when I not only completed the 12 pull ups of my first set but also had enough time to get through another set of single unders and the dumbbell Snatches that came afterwards. I made it all the way through 6 reps of the second set of pull-ups! But by the end, I was not just surprised but somewhat disappointed. Yes, DISAPPOINTED ! I mean, I get it... I should've celebrated the fact that I got beyond the first set of pull-ups which was my initial goal but the truth of the matter is the single unders didn't feel challenging enough, then the 35 pound overhead squat was anticlimactic, and the 20 pound dumbbells snatches were a meer speed-bump as I caught my breath from all those damn single unders. It was, dare I say, almost too👏🏾damn 👏🏾easy. 🤷🏾‍♀️ I practically spent the entire weekend contemplating if I should re-do it and attempt to complete it RX. I mean there is no way I would get a muscle up but I figured every other exercise in there would be an actual challenge. I've never been able to string more than 10-15 double unders together so I knew this was going to take serious effort and an 85# OHS for reps would be a first for me. But hey, if I'm not pushing myself at every opportunity, why am I even doing this?
