Good grief trying to get a decent camera angle on this that didn’t chop off my legs was more of a challenge than the pose itself! #handstandsplits for #MasteringHandstands It took a while to figure this one out, kept loosing balance every time I straightened the front leg - got there in the end with a nice controlled exit

A little more advanced shoulder opening exercise I love so much! 🙌
It's a great practice if you're working on straightening your arms in #Dhanurasana, #UrdhvaDhanurasana, and #Natarajasana.

💙 Make a small roop with a strap, and hook it around your ankle tightly.
Keeping your legs straight, lift your upper body using your hand.

💙Grab a strap and walk your hand close to your ankle if you can. If not, stay here and hold with your ARM STRAIGHT.

💙 KEEP YOUR BUTT AND LEGS FULLY ENGAGED, pull your elbow in using the other hand. •
💙Walk your hand toward a strap. RELAX YOUR ARM 100%, and PRESS YOUR THIGHS, ANKLES, AND ALL TEN TOES FIRMLY. •
💙Walk your hands toward your ankle slowly by LIFTING YOUR UPPER BODY UP!! ⬆️⬆️⬆️
And hold as long as you can with the deep breath 💨

💙To exist, release one hand slowly on the mat, and rotate your elbow and release a strap VERY SLOWLY. NEVER LET GO YOUR STRAP IMMEDIATELY, as it is really bad for your spine! 😣

💙 Push back to #DownwardDog, and hold about ten deep breath with your HEELS DOWN⬇️ and TOES UP⬆️. Squeeze your knee cap up and lengthene your low back as a counter pose 😘

❤️Take a same amount of time and effort to exist from the pose. It's as important as getting into the pose 😊

When I first started practicing Ashtanga Yoga I remember looking at all the strong boys with awe. It took me five years of consistent practice before I started to feel a bit of that strength within myself. The struggle is real. It took both grace and grit to get through it. Sometimes mostly grit.

I’ve known Charles from @shaladelphia for nearly twenty years. When I started practicing Mysore Style Ashtanga Yoga in NYC he was one of the strong boys that I was inspired by. Years later we’re still friends on the path of yoga. We’ve kept in touch through journeys to India and major life changes. Day 5 #StrongandSuppleYogi is Handstand Grip from class five of the new course by @fitnessbyerin on @omstarsofficial Mayurasana is one of the best poses to practice your handstand grip. It’s not exactly the challenge pose of the day, but it’s a fun way to work the grip. Don’t try it balancing on someone else until you’re comfortable on the floor.
