Here is my lunch from the flight today. I am glad I’m always prepared with food and snacks when I travel, especially on days like today. We ended up being on the plane for 8 hours for what was supposed to be a 3 hour flight. The plane was delayed after we boarded, then because of bad weather, we landed on the opposite side of the island 🤦🏼‍♀️. We waited in Santo Domingo for an hour then finally flew 30 minutes back to Santiago. Never been so happy to get off a plane and set foot in Dominican Republic! Super excited for all the adventures over the next 7 days 🇩🇴

“Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day...” 🎶☔️ At least I have my salads to bring some spring green(s) into my life 🥗😄 This one is filled and/or topped with Cucumbers🥒, Bell Pepper, Celery, Broccoli 🥦 and Carrot🥕Shreds, Red Cabbage, Mixed Spring Greens, Roasted Sweet Potatoes 🍠 and Asparagus, Sprouted Pumpkin Seeds by @go_raw , Roasted Wasabi Edamame by @seapointfarms , Macadamia Nuts and a Homemade Balsamic Dijon Dressing. I could eat this everyday, twice a day, and be totally satisfied 😋 Well, as long as I got some sushi 🍣 every now and again 😆 #ineedspring #itscold #greens #veggielove

Beware for all the names that sugar can be under‼️‼️Make sure you are a label reader to know what you are consuming when anything comes in packages or bags. •
And of course avoid any artificial sweeteners as they can damage microbiome + cause cravings. 🤙🏽

The Cost of Health 💵💰 •People often blame the high cost of “healthy” foods for bad eating habits but thankfully the margins between junk food and produce are narrowing, making the jump to more fruit and veggies more attainable. •However, we cannot dispute the fact that On average it costs the consumer 14- 50% more to purchase nutritious foods. •So here are a few tips to help keep more green in your cart and in your pockets. 🌿💰 1)Buy non perishable food like grains, nuts and seeds in bulk ! This significantly cuts down on the cost for fancy packaging.
2)Buy what is on sale! Eating fruits and veggies, as well as meats that are in sale will ensure you stay on budget but also create variety and rotation in your diet.
3)Shop on customer appreciation days, stores often give out hearty discounts to their customers and combined with bulk food and purchasing from the sales will ensure that eating healthy actually doesn’t cost much more!
4) Don’t get sucked into marketing! Supermarkets are designed to make you buy what THEY want you to buy. For example Stores will place convenience foods like instant rice packets (more expensive and more additives) at eye level while the bags of dried rice will be on the very bottom shelf. Taking an extra 10 minutes to seek out the less expensive products will save you cash in the long run.
5) Plan Ahead! Writing a list and sticking to it will also ensure you aren’t swayed by the marketing genius of the grocery store. Having a list also ensure mindful purchase of foods instead of zooming through the aisles and grabbing the products that have the prettiest packaging!
6) Lastly, never shop on an empty stomach! Studies have shown that eating prior to shopping actually reduces the amount of unhealthy food options purchased.

It still amazes me that there are so many ways to get vegetables in our desserts. I don’t go out of my way to “hide” veggies, my kids have to eat what’s put in front of them and that’s that! But when I come across recipes that use high quality vegetables or starch in a freakin’ dessert, you bet I’m in!! 😬🤓🙋🏻‍♀️
