The new Cohiba Talisman seems to be jumping off the shelves in cigar stores alll around the world. Everybody wants to try it but I think I’ll put my box to rest for a while. Maybe I’ll give one a try if I find me a couple of singles.
My choice of Cohiba for today is the Edicion Limitada 2006 Pirámides (156x52).
This is a rerelease of the Cohiba Reserva de Milenio from 1999 and the Edición Limitada from 2001.
Well let’s see if it is as good as it looks.
The first puffs are smooth and mild with notes of a bit bitter citrus and oak.
The draw is fine but the burn is initially uneven but it straightens out later on. A couple of touch ups is needed every now and then though.
The first third is delivering flavors of wood, dark chocolate, cardamom, nutmeg and a small pinch of licorice. The woody notes are more related to pinewood than cedar imo. Occasionally I get some honey sweetness but not at the extreme level aged Cohibas can deliver sometimes.
The second third is nice and creamy with some mild black pepper on the retrohale. Now the woody flavors are cedar and oak barrel combined with an interesting note of violet pastilles.
Strength is mild to medium in the first two thirds.
In the beginning of the last third the Pirámides is delivering some typical Cohiba honey and a lot of chocolate. The strength is increasing towards the end and settles on a medium level. Nuts and cedar wood are the main ingredients in the finale of this fourth Limitada from the Cuban flagship brand Cohiba.
To summarize this stick I would say that it is a nice smoke but a bit too one dimensional to compete with the best Cohibas I’ve smoked. My favorite Limitada from the Marca is still the 1966 released in 2011. Let’s see if the Talisman can threaten my number one on my top list in a couple of years.
Do you have a favorite Limitada to recommend?
Have a good one out there. /Anders W Bengtsson

The Partagas Corona Gorda Anejados. This 5 5/8x46 Cigar has been carefully aged in its box since 2007. Woody, Earthy and Leathery with an aromatic aroma... Says one of the reviews, I'd have to agree! Available now in our walk in humidor.
