Il saggio del priore Enzo Bianchi è la mia terza lettura dell’anno. “L’identità, sia a livello personale che comunitario, si è costruita e sempre si costruisce attraverso l’incontro e la relazione con gli altri, diversi e stranieri”. .

“The perfect crime lies not in the execution, but in the cover-up,” says author @meenalbaghel in this book, my first author-signed copy! It's the story of the chilling Maria Susairaj case (Neeraj Grover's murder). Meenal continues to be the editor of Mumbai Mirror, bringing in years of reporting expertise and access to top brass for interviews, into this behind-the-scenes account of the case. If the mystery of the case fails to excite you, I suggest you pick it up just for her writing, for Meenal's no ordinary author. The writing is sharp, time zones overlap well, and insiders’ accounts, plentiful.

Also, she's my former boss from the newsroom 😎

Sofa-shaped Sunday morning, complete with fleecy PJs, slipper socks, central heating, and snow outside (oh, and Herland). I’ve been hankering after this book for a little while but I’ve found it really difficult to get stuck in, so setting aside an hour for it today. #reading #amreading #nowreading #currentlyreading #reader #bookworm #bookporn #readersofinsta #readersofinstagram #herland #femlit #feminist #feministfiction #tattoo #booktattoo

These two have been on the to-read list for over twenty years. I dropped $2.25 for this edition in a thrift store about a year ago. I’m a chapter in and already knee deep in childhood nostalgia.

I'm only part way thru "Busted: An Illustrated History of Drug Prohibition In Canada," but so far it's been illuminating the racism, classicism, and sexism that has always informed the War On Drugs. I'm learning that for over a century First Nations people caught with alcohol could be jailed for a month, and smoking opium was originally outlawed as a way to target working-class Chinese men... all while white settlers drank & used perscription opiodes with impunity. It's amazing how fucked up & marginalizing drug criminalization has ALWAYS been, and yet as a society we don't seem to be shifting much. Eeeeeeh.

Drowning in course-work, I turn to old heroes to keep me going. No human alive has made me chuckle as much as Psmith does with every re-read. Also, I think David Hitch's covers for PGW books are the best designs out there (sorry, Ionicus).

I am exactly the kind of cynic Solnit lambasts in this book. And perhaps that’s why I need to read it. I highlighted, made notes, and thought about how I can actually do something instead of cribbing about the state of the world. And developed a deeper appreciation for all the activists and dreamers who made the world better, even though sometimes it seems like we have a longer way to go than ever.

The aim of the religious teaching is not to cure the individual back again to the general delusion, but to detach him from delusion altogether #JosephCampbell #TheHeroWith1000Faces #NowReading
