A quote from our guide through the elephant reserve in Minneriya, northern Sri Lanka: "So great, yet so wise. So mighty, yet so gentle. We love them, and yet they make us feel so small. They are, I think, the animal most like God." So grateful to have gotten the chance to observe elephants in a place that preserves & honors their natural habitat. Via @recesscity

It’s National Elephant Day, declared by the Thai government since March 13, 1998 every year on this day we honor the elephants with blessings and ceremonies from local monks 🇹🇭🐘 I wanted to introduce you to my little foster honey Wanwisa, whenever @camaroha_sutra is in Thailand I always go to visit her, they remember. Wanwisa is from: Chiaiya Phoon Province Age: 17 Years Old Mahout: Ta-Kee
Wanwisa name in Thai means Buddha, she originally came from the Karen tribe from Chiaiya Phoon Province. She is a very calm elephant and extremely hairy. Her favorite thing to do is splash mud, and loves playing around in the water. You can spot Wanwisa if you look for her long legs and slim figure, these are typical features of the Eastern Thai elephants. If you want to adopt an Elephant too go to @ran_tong_elephant_rescue

'What Trophy Hunting Does to the Elephants It Leaves Behind' 🔰

In light of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's most recent announcement to start re-issuing permits to import elephant trophies from Zimbabwe and Zambia, overturning the ban put in place in 2014... 'The idea that killing more elephants will help save the species is counterintuitive,...' Photo credit: Tamsin Lotter - photo of one of our prime bulls, Wessa, during a recent recollaring operation.
Through our tracking data we are able to witness the role each mature bull plays within their social network - imagine society's influential role models are removed from the system - how different would the world be?
