A cat meowing at your feet, looking at you is a life, smiling at you. These are the moments when we are happy. These moments remind us that we are still alive...

Spent some time together this afternoon at #PonceCityMarket and in the #Old4thWard and #WestEnd and #WestsideProvisionsDistrict...driving by former homes and favorite past hangouts. It's a good weekend to have been in the #Atlanta area (even if we *didn't* get to see all the thousand people we would've liked to—partly because many of our loved ones got the opportunity to take in a certain A+ movie this weekend). 🙅🏾‍♂️🙌🏽🙅🏾

Be sure to give it a good listen, this music cheered me right up. 🙄 If you ever wondered, farm life mishaps can pile up in ways that city folk can’t even imagine. Yesterday, a farming friend and I were comparing how we did certain things, and they said, “So you’re basically homesteading?” Lol, I’m trying to recall the kind of farming that comes a few steps below that, share cropping? Subsistence farming? Ugh. We are so close, yet so far from getting over this growth hump. I have to admit today, I am feeling weary and overwhelmed and anxious. This tractor broke my courage today. But once again, my helpful Farm friends showed right up to get it into the shop. Hay was delivered even though I did not have the cash to pay for it today, and it is at least inside the farm gates, so worst case, I can just let the cows out for self service if it comes to that. So, we will not starve. This week at least. But processor scheduling is very unhelpful and unlucky. Finally got on the schedule subject to confirmation Tuesday, but I’ve got a farm full of mud with warm weather and rain ahead. Why do I share this bit of stress and unpleasant reality? Because, I plead with you, the Farm Bill is being negotiated now, and your farmers need for you to know what it is really like for them. Please take a little time to become familiar with the risk and stress farmers live with on a daily basis, particularly as we approach the brink of debating and passing a new Farm bill. Building a farm from scratch is rough. We are about to lose a whole lotta farmers to retirement, and then what? Not many people would be willing to live this way to raise better, healthier food in a safe, and ethical way, and create alternatives to the commodity food system. What then? #BadNews/GoodNews #FarmerStress #BlazingTrail #BuildingAFarm #JustTakesMoney #HighRisk #Neighboring #ForgottenFoodsRaisedWithLoveAndCare #CleanLeanGreenEats #EatWhereYouLivePGH

"The broken people in our neighborhood weren’t waiting for a government program; they were waiting for relationships. These hurting people, so uncomfortably close to us, weren’t looking for handouts; they were looking for hope. We realized it was no accident God had placed us in our home. He had planted us there—not as tenants, but as missionaries."⠀

The stories in Staying Is The New Going by Alan Briggs will change the way you look at your city and provide insights into how you can be an authentic Christian.⠀

We go to Haiti to build relationship with our Neighbors. We go to Haiti because I want to learn from those who ARE loving their neighbors beautifully. .
We go to haiti to break from investing in our own concerns, lives, and our own children. Maybe it’s a fast, maybe it’s a tithe of time, maybe it’s just looking up from my own stuff and saying “What matters to you?” .
And then working alongside them for it. Whatever it is, I learn more, grow more, and watch my family look up to the people who are giants in living out love. .
So we sit in homes, and plant an avocado or okra or maringa tree in their garden together. Knowing this plant will grow, and nurture this family, hopefully for generations to come. There’s nothing like digging in someone’s garden to get to know someone..
.
Then the boys sing happy birthday to the plant, and belt out at the end “and many more!!!”. Because they’re my kids, and a Haitian agronomist we worked with the day before told us to sing to everything we plant. Family gardens, digging in dirt, laughter, prayer and friendship. Mutual thriving.
.
We worship in creole, sitting in the world wide family of God. Being led by people who match my youngest son’s skin tone. Being woven into the reality of more of the world being brown than the snow white place we live. .
Relationship restores us to Reality.

This is Ronald, he’s a feisty 9 year old, the last of 7 children. I washed his 30 classmates hands before lunch, while he pointed out one boy and whispered in my ear “That one, he beats me up”. .
He told me, because he might be a trash talker, or he knows I’m on his side. We were hanging out with his class just to be with him. He’s shorter than most and unspeakable shy but as we hung out he seemed to grow taller in front of my eyes. Until he jumped in front of his whole class to be in the front of the photo.
.
Since preschool and kindergarten my boys have been meeting the boys they sponsor each year. Play some frisbee, ask about their families, meet their teachers, see their classrooms. Usually they ask if they can go play at their houses. .
Then we look them in the eye and tell them how proud we are of them, and honored we are to cheer them on alongside their mom and dad. I watch my sons, put their hands on them and pray great things over their buddies life. .
Ronalds teacher is amazing, and erupted in a shy smile when I told her how hard and incredible her job is. How grateful we are that Ronald has her for his teacher this year.

I go to Haiti to sit at the feet and learn from the Ones who know how to love their neighbors. They are world wide leaders, practitioners and educators in my book. .
I stumbled into this treasure when the earthquake happened 8 years ago. I felt compelled to travel to haiti as a nurse because they are my neighbor. It’s a 1 ½ hour flight from florida to Haiti. I fly from my hometown of #Duluth to #minneapolis in about an hour. Haiti said they needed medical volunteers so I went. .
Last month I went to Haiti with my family for the 6th time. I learn more every year, our relationships deepen. We drove by a refugee camp where a couple years ago we set up a folding table in to do a medical clinic in a roofless block of cement that now has 50,000 people, houses and a school. .
Restoration and hope are happening.
