The ocean this morning. #nofilter and a deep sense of hope.

One of the things I want more of this year is CONNECTION. As a solopreneur, it’s too easy to stay holed up at home, seldom venturing out and engaging with the people around me. And…the more introverted I’ve become over the past few years, the easier it’s become to say no to social engagements, opting instead for quiet times at home. .
.
I love my online community, and I love the relationships I’ve built with people all over the world. I’ve met wonderful women with whom I feel so incredibly connected. People with whom I resonate, reflect and in many ways, repair.
.
.
BUT… this shouldn’t completely replace REAL CONNECTION. It shouldn’t come at the expense of people I’ve known for years, the people who make me laugh, the people I describe as family. .
.
So this year, CONNECTION for me is also about reconnecting in the old-fashioned way. .
.
Popping in for tea. Meeting at the market. Swinging by for a drink.

This is what happens when you lump a mountain of coconut oil on your head to appease your crying child. Apparently it’s a cure for cradle cap (she’s 7, years old for goodness sake!) Darcey was beside herself with misery, cross because I said she looked like a little alien with her hair in buns and mortified that I took this photo. I can’t help but think she’ll be desperate for pots of it when she’s a teenager wanting glossy locks and I’ll be broke. She said after she wouldn’t have cried if I’d used olive oil. Seriously?! I normally avoid selfies but it was one of those moments. #badparent #selfiesundays #onlybecauseitsfunny 🥥 🙄🤣

#flashbackfriday to 5 months ago and a glorious break in the Maldives. Ah…the feelings of replenishment, expansiveness and connectedness.
.
Too often we save our moments of joy for the holidays. And this time of year a lot of people are already thinking about the next opportunity they'll have to escape somewhere...waiting for the next chance to feel good.
.
Yes, that's important. Taking proper breaks that restore, revive and remind you of, well...YOU, are hugely important. BUT...
.
.
It's also the little moments that count.
.
We can do small things every day to make us feel replenished, expansive, connected.
.
Enjoying a coffee date with a stimulating friend.
Dashing out for a quick swim in the sea (or an icy shower!)
Taking a brisk walk on a windy day.
Getting that work done in a buzzing coffee shop.
Talking about something that really matters to us.
.
What does the holiday feeling mean to you? And what's the one thing you can do today to make you feel that way?

Beauty in the simple. And imperfect.

Today I’m choosing simplicity.
.
I’m choosing not to step into the crazy.
.
I’m choosing easy and gentle and light.

Winter is coming! It is vital that we seek out beauty wherever we can, inside and out, to fortify ourselves.
This is a small corner of the Copenhagen Botanical Gardens. I don't know what I love more: the pretty display of the small plant shop or the old Citroën van in the background 🍁🍂 🌰 #jardindesplantes #instantretreat #myinstantretreat #citroën

I can’t claim credit for this drawing but neither do I know who to praise. This little sketch is drawn onto a ceramic heart I was given as a gift some years ago. .
To me it says freedom and it says simplicity. Two pretty good principles to live by.

Simple things.
.
A cool summer breeze as I pass the door. Fresh linen on my bed. The smell of coffee floating up the stairs. An acknowledging smile. Freshly cut lawn. The sound of the ocean. An afternoon nap.

There was a time when I would have seen the flaws. I would have noticed the need for improvement and rejected what was not polished and perfect.
.
But there is fullness in the flaw. A sense of story. A reminder of strength. An unmasking of vulnerability. .
This too, is beautiful.
