Took this old mush home thinking it was dried out already and would be a nice addition to our collection. Welp! Bad idea 💡 woke up the next morning with maggots on the floor falling from underneath the cap 🤮 Still a cool find though. Lesson learned, always check your #shrooms

Winter can be deceiving, making us feel like everything is dull and lifeless. But, hidden away amongst the trees, hedgerows and moss there are flashes of colour everywhere 🌈 like this Scarlet Elf Cup Mushroom 🍄 Happy Saturday everyone!

The quarantined employee reimbursement claim form mushroom stack gets more and more bizarre. It hasn’t had fresh air or light in over a month, but it’s still growing and evolving and hosting new guests. ☁️☁️☁️ #mushroomoftheday #moldolympics #myceliumcascades

Bright and Colorful Fungi: Clarke’s Pixie Caps and Scarlet Bracket!

Fungi are often under-valued in terms of the role they play in maintaining ecosystems. Many native flora and fauna in Australia would struggle to survive without the presence of fungi e.g. as I have said in one of my earlier posts, several orchid species have symbiotic mycorrhizal partnerships with fungi.
The 1st photo depicts two species of fungi – purplish ‘Clarke’s Pixie Caps’ (Mycena sp.) and reddish ‘Scarlet Bracket’ (Trametes sp.) growing on a dead Paperbark tree (Melaleuca sp.). The 2nd photo shows a close-up of the Scarlet Bracket Fungi taken during the golden hour. The 3rd photo shows the same cluster of Clarke’s Pixie Caps (features a fly), a few days later – however, notice that the fungi appear pink-brownish at this stage.
These shots were taken within the Brixton St Nature Reserve in Kenwick (City of Gosnells), one of the most ecologically significant remnant urban nature in the Perth region and is home to over five dozen fungi species. #perth #southwest #westernaustralia #perthisok #justanotherdayinwa #amazingaustralia #fungi #amazingnature #fungiofinstagram #photooftheday #bright #colourful #purple #scarlet #paperbark #nature_perfection #macro_secrets #macrophotography #goldenhour #mycology #mushrooms #mushroomspotting #mushroomoftheday #urbannature #fungifreaks #fungiaffair #fungifanatic #mushlove #fantasticfungi #natureporn
