Sequence of photos from last night's work. It took me 45 minutes to skin and clean 11 trout. I'm out of practice. Beautiful orange meat from eating shrimp. 10/11 were bucks but we got one little gal full of roe. It's always hard for me to come to terms with the loss of life associated with this process. Being mindful of the life I've taken, appreciating the gift, and using as much of the animal as possible all make me feel better about the process. Hopefully a chef friend of mine has some ideas for the roe.
Today’s adventure...a trip to my favorite hot springs. My parent took me here often as a child, and I loved sharing this place with Olivia 💕 #livvingitup #montana

Another shot from last week's ski adventure. Thanks @gmjensen218 for the photo. I've been thinking lately that time is just a cruel set of needless restrictions we put on ourselves. To trap us in routine and quantify the number of good years of life we have. To create timelines for when we should be accomplishing things by. I say to hell with it.

Orange gold on the #treager this morning before work. Got the alder pellets rolling. When you begin to hunt and fish as a source of sustenance and not out of pure sport it's a sharp reminder of how fortunate we are today. Most of us live in a place with access to clean water, food and shelter. We can go to the store and buy just about any fruit, vegetables, or meat we want. From all over the world. And yet (myself included) we all find reasons to bitch and moan. Here is to being thankful for a plentiful state full of game and fish to bring home, and friends and family to enjoy it with.

A friend of mine told me, nothing worthwhile comes without a little pain. Realizing the different ways we experience life and what make our experiences unique from the day to day routine is extremely important to living a life full of memorable adventures. Don't be afraid to suffer a little for some beauty, the payoff is worth every minute.

Out for my first "Backcountry" ski adventure with @gmjensen218 couldn't ask for better views or company to finish out the new year.

Fillet knife I made for @fins_and_scales for Christmas this year. Handle is Mule Deer antler from my first archery buck. Blade is a Helle Helifisk, extremely sharp. Living in a smaller space I'm running out of places to put my antlers. Creating working tools out of those antlers seemed like a great solution to reduce clutter and create some memorable pieces.

I'm up late making scalloped potatoes with ham for others and this potato is in the shape of a heart.
I stopped.
I am brought back to one of the first chores my mum gave me.
Peeling potatoes... I'm 6, maybe 7.
I'm on a stool, leaning over the golden colored sink, the water is at a drip... "don't waste that, it's precious in Montana."
"See this.. these are the eyes, they don't see, but that's what a good seed potato needs to grow... but these are for eating, today, anyway...
See here... that's just a spot... keep peeling until you find good potato underneath.
Sometimes there's a dark middle, just throw that one away, in the bucket under the counter, that goes back to the earth to try again..." Potatoes can be like people.

Been in the kitchen instead of the shop last couple days. Just finished up a batch of lefse to go with the 125 meatballs I made yesterday. #hammerandtine #christmasprep #chefingitup #lefse #kötbullar #scandi #cuisine #swede #montanan
