West Texas has amazing star gazing opportunities thanks to its remote location. We stopped by the McDonald Observatory, a part of UT Austin near Fort Davis to attend their popular Star Party. I’ve never seen so many stars before! We learned about various stars and constellations and even saw the International Space Station fly by. The best part was viewing the moon’s craters through the observatory’s powerful telescopes. Tickets routinely sell out so buy in advance!⠀

Even if sunrise washes out the stars, we never get tired of the view. 📸:@tracycarlsonphoto

This is a morning I would have loved to have spent driving the Davis Mountain loop. Here you can see the giant telescopes at the @mcdonald_observatory. If you get the chance to attend one of their Star Parties, you MUST. It is an unforgettable experience. I’m so happy out on this drive, especially in the early morning. 🌞

Cycling the West Texas High Desert, climbed up to 6600 ft of elevation to see the 5th largest telescope in the world. Cruised several miles at 38-40mph back on decent down to Fort Davis. #cyclinglife #emonda #mcdonaldobservatory
