I made a Maori Patu. An unusual type of warclub from Native New Zealand. This one is made from a piece of strand-woven bamboo flooring. ;) It came out pretty well, can't wait to start on my wahaika... ;) #maori #patu #warclub #handmade #madebyme #art #commission #fun #fantasy #costume #cosplay #culture #history #newzealand #bamboo #calibamboo #weapon #weird #artistsoninstagram #woodworking #woodworking #carving #maurakau #woodweapons

• Tūrangawaewae: a place to stand PT 1 • One of the most well-known and powerful Māori concepts. Literally tūranga (standing place), waewae (feet), it is often translated as ‘a place to stand’. Tūrangawaewae are places where we feel especially empowered and connected. They are our foundations, our special places in the world, our homes. They are the places that ground us spiritually, mentally and physically. Without a foundation, where do you stand? One of my tūrangawaewae is my marae Rongomaihuatahi situated in the most beautiful place in the world... Omaio Bay, Aotearoa. Why my marae? Because it is the central hub of where people meet, it's walls hold our history, our geneology, my tīpuna, its a school, a meeting place, a place that fosters all tangata. In order to know where you are going, you must recognise who you are and where you come from. • He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata! What is the most important thing in the world? It is the people! •
