We toured a sugar cane history museum today, and it was really quite interesting. I know sugar gets a bad rap, but for more than a hundred and fifty years it was the major economic force in Hawaii (especially until tourism took off in the late 1950’s). The last sugar cane mill ceased operations in Hawaii (on Maui) in 2016 because sugar produced on the US mainland is cheaper and high fructose corn syrup has replaced natural sugar in so many foods. It’s really quite sad, and all the sugar cane fields here sit empty, and I wonder where all of the displaced workers were able to find new jobs in a place that depended so heavily on the sugar cane factories. #maui #sugarcane #sugarcanefields #sugarcanemuseum

Hanging out at Ho'okipa today. Watching how powerful the waves were was incredible! So grateful to spend the day inspired by God's creation.

We went to see some turtles and surfers. Instead we saw some really strong surf. No one allowed out there today. Pretty cool to see though. #vacation #maui #northshore
