Tip Tuesday: Always choose your dinner before your breakfast and lunch. Recently Emalie and I have been really big into high protein dinners. We always look to see whats for dinner before we choose whats for breakfast and lunch to ensure we hit our macros and have enough protein in our systems before hitting the hay! BUT WAIT is it really #nationalmuffinday ?! I’m skeptical. 🧐 Either way, you should make these BANANA CHIA CHOCOLATE CHIP MUFFINS. They’re oil free, gluten free, vegan, refined sugar free, and ridiculously tasty. If you guys have been following me a while you might have heard me tell the story of my first blog, THE VEGAN MUFFIN WOMAN...😂😂😂 All I can say is, after 6 months of blogging about nothing but muffins, your girl got a bit tired of seeing muffin tops...😌 Needless to say, muffins are part of my origin story so they have a special place in my ❤️. Almond cookies! 😍 The first is an almond sugar cookie (with erythritol, not sugar!) made from our sugar cookie mix prepared with almond butter, and the second (swipe) is a vegan cookie from the blog made with fresh vanilla bean seeds 😋
If you like almond butter, try these! BUT note: protein enriched nut butters do not bake the same as regular nut butters. The extra protein will change the texture of your bake. #themoreyouknow So opt for regular nut butters unless the recipe calls for the protein kind. 💪🏼
Reason # 100 why lifting weights is rad. 🏋️‍♀️ That is the main difference between these two photos. (Well that and two kids and 500-700 more calories a day 🤩) Here’s why ⬇️ Once I started consistently strength training a lot of things changed for me. I learned that I actually needed to fuel myself with MORE food to see the results I wanted. I was able to push my metabolic capacity. I began to make peace with food restrictions. I ditched my ties to a number on the scale. Instead I focused on how I looked and FELT. With the help from macros, I got my period back after struggling with amenorrhea for years. I learned that cardio wasn’t the only way to exercise and too much could actually work against me.
One of the main reasons I have been able to bounce back quickly after having two babies has been the fact that I have strength trained through the entirety of both pregnancies and postpartum.

Most importantly, lifting has made me feel empowered, confident, and strong on the inside and the outside.
Picture on the left: Eating probably 1800 calories a day. Exercise was 5-6 days of cardio with the occasional weights. Suffering from Ammenorhea (lack of a menstrual cycle)
Picture on the right: Eating 2250-2500 Calories a day. Strength training 5-6 days a week with hiit 30-40 minutes per week) Two babies 👶🏼 👶🏼 and a Menstrual Cycle.
I share this for a couple reasons; and it’s so much more than appearance or body composition! If you are nervous about being a certain number; don’t be. If you are suffering from hormonal issues, know that you can get your body in a healthy state and look the way you want. And if you just want to feel strong on the inside AND the outside; weights for the win!

As time goes on, i can’t help but notice how the age of fitness instagram is getting younger and younger.
While this is a great thing in many ways and it’s so important for young people to be active, i can’t help but be grateful that my middle and high school years weren’t spent tracking macros and getting my parents to give me rides to the gym. I played team sports: basketball, lacrosse, soccer, dance, swim team, and later rowing which i did into my first two years of college.
I wasn’t isolated to the gym working out alone, but instead learned to work as part of a team all while being with my best friends every single day. I absolutely believe there is value in learning to lift while you are young, especially for sports performance (hey remember the weightlifting unit in gym class?) but i honestly can’t imagine having my whole world being the gym and tracking every gram of food i eat at such a young age.
It makes me very uncomfortable seeing some 14 year olds trying to “hit their macros” and working with a coach when their energy could be spent on creating memories with friends. Fueling for performance in a sport while eating a balance of everything. Blowing money on pacsun jeans and sparkly phone cases instead of lululemon leggings. Spending weekends at tournaments and sleepovers instead of the gym and fitness conventions and in the kitchen meal prepping. I know a lot of people will probably disagree with this but it’s been on my mind a lot lately and I’d love to hear your thoughts. Let’s create a meaningful discussion 👇🏻
