What a great presentation today by my colleague in the fight for liberation @gwenragsdale. It was a blessing to host the nationally renowned #lestweforgetslaverymuseum (Black Holocaust) for our Church's Soul Food African American history celebration. This exhibit and award winning documentary is a must see for everyone!

Just outside of Bastogne, Belgium, is the forest of ‘Bois Jacques’. Today the sound in these woods is composed by birdsong and pines swaying in the mist. Look closer however and you can see the faint echos of history, the scars of war.
On the edge of the forest overlooking the town of Foy, still exist the fox holes dug out of the earth by the soldiers of EZ company, 101 Airborne, U.S. Army. At one time in history this was a sort-of hell-on-earth, a front line in the “Battle of the Bulge” during the Second World War.
An estimated 175,000 human casualties were suffered during the greater campaign which lasted a little over a month.

Enjoying the beautiful trees here at the Oak Alley Plantation. Rather than tour the lovely plantation house, I bought a book to gain a different perspective. #educatingmyself #lestweforget

Met up with a local Saturday group ride here in Huntsville on a cool rainy morning; while waiting I came by this downtown memorial to all our fighting forces. This part was the WWI American ‘doughboys charging out of the trenches’, honoring the fallen from this area...fitting weather for a somber sight. #lestweforget

The 6th photo is of a name i found at tyne cot war cemetry, mental to find your own name there. They might even be a relation?
Finally the 8th photo is of a german cemetry. In that grass area is of a mass grave of over 25 thousand german soldiers in that small area.

Utah Beach in the time of 8th June 1944. Utah, commonly known as Utah Beach, was the code name for one of the five sectors of the Allied invasion of German-occupied France in the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944 (D-Day). The objective at Utah was to secure a beachhead on the Cotentin Peninsula, the location of important port facilities at Cherbourg. The amphibious assault, primarily by the US 4th Infantry Division and 70th Tank Battalion, was supported by airborne landings of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Division
