I love reading multicultural books with my kids. We attended a multicultural night at our school that was very well done. The kids received passports and visited different countries- writing down something they learned and sampling native food. When the passports were complete, they got these super cool multicultural crayons. I just love them! Oh and this Harriet book is really good too! #knbmulticultural @vistaschool

You know when your student turns the page and gasps, it’s a good book! And when you’re reading a book about noticing your blessings.... it’s a good one!

If you are an adult who works with kids, you need this book. It’s about a boy who is a little quiet, yet still needs friends like everyone else. Who is going to be the brave one and invite him into their circle? It’s hard to do. #knbfriends #knbbekind. ⠀

You can always look in our library basket and see a glimpse into our lives. This is what it looked like after we took out the Christmas books. Any tips for a first time puppy owner?

Happy New Year! We have some new people around here so I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Allyson and I’m the face behind Kids n Books. I’ve been a private reading tutoring for 20 years and love it. I also have a preschool/kindergarten Kids n Books class in my home where I try to nurture that love for books. I have 3 kids and a hubby who are all avid readers. So I share our favorite books along the way. Hope you see something helpful!

When I get the chance to read a book by Patricia Polacco to my kids or tutor students, I take it. This one will leave you with all the warm fuzzies. #knbchristmas

Cynthia Rylant wrote this book. Need I say more? The book is based on a true story. It takes place in Appalachia where each Christmas, a boy named Frankie waits beside the tracks for the Christmas Train, which will bring presents to the children who live in coal towns. Year after year, Frankie hopes that one particular gift-one very special gift-will be tossed to him from that train. And it is this hope that will guide him to the true meaning of the season. #knbchristmas

I kinda have a thing for sequels. They are just so fun. And they are perfect for making connections (an important reading skill) The illustrations are amazing too. #knbchristmas

This wonderful book is about a pine tree that offers support and shelter to the meek and lowly wildlife, even in the midst of ridicule from its friends, the other pine trees. The pine tree’s choices of helping others is a great example to be kind, even when others are not. #knbchristmas #knbbekind

Last night one of my tutor students was shocked that I would ask her to read this book to me. She didn’t think she could read this big Christmas book. Well, she did and read it well. That’s why I love Dick and Jane. #knbreluctantreader #knbchristmas

If you are a Mama, then you are a Stinky Face fan. Just trust me on this one. Am I right Stinky Face fans? Adorable. And just not Christmas, which makes these books even more fun! #knbchristmas #knbscholastic @brittsfavthings

Did you know there were so many “Grace” books! Grace Christmas is particularly good. She does not want to share her Christmas with strangers, a refugee family, but has a loving Mom who thinks otherwise. Great lessons. #knbchristmas #knbdiversity #knbmulticultural
