Castle Hunting of a dark and dreary Sunday. A very enjoyable visit nonetheless! Steeped in History and Science too, which I didn't realise beforehand. 😊☔🏞🏰🔭

St Kevin's Kitchen (not actually a kitchen - the name came from people thinking the bell tower was a chimney), is probably our favourite of the 7 churches of Glendalough. A nice little building, but not many mod-cons, or central heating! They were a hardy bunch that lived round these parts back in the day. #glendalough #valley #wicklow #mountains #wicklowway #irelandsancienteast #ireland #stkevin #church #wicklowway #visitwicklow #medieval #architecture
The Bishop's Palace was commissioned in 1743 by Bishop Charles Este to the design of Richard Cassel. The premature death of Este in 1745 and Cassel's in 1750 led to the palace being completed by John Roberts, a waterford architect and builder. From 1743 to 1919 the Palace functioned as the residence of the Anglican bishop's of Waterford.
The Bishop's Palace was conserved in 2010/2011 and opened as a museum in June 2011. The beautiful museum holds treasures of Georgian and Victorian Waterford right up to modern day.
