What's a coma like? 🤔

For me, I can't remember being put under, but I do remember hour after hour of awful visions and experiences. It was like recovering from the drug binge from hell (not that I've ever tried drugs). People with square heads, seeing double, bright flashing murals, beeping noises, awful discomfort, not being able to speak properly, everyone being like they were 'solarized', the television being all distorted, 'sped up' and too uncomfortable to watch for more than a few seconds, zero ability to remember anything I was told, gross tasting green foam 'lollipops' being used to keep my mouth moist and frightening hallucinations.

I just wanted it to stop but it wouldn't. What really threw me was when they said I'd been under for 5 days. I was totally freaked out and didn't sleep for over 36 hours following being told that... Lastly, my right lung was so sore, I kept asking where they'd 'operated' on me, but couldn't find a wound (because there wasn't one). All of this is classed as PSTD / Intensive Care Delerium.

It was one hell of an experience and I'm glad it's over. But for Lucy, it was a 7 day nightmare as she witnessed everything from my blood pressure dropping dangerously low to my extubation. I'll do a follow up video on her experiences.
Love that girl, she's a true champion and was there for me at my worst without flinching 😘

Central venous catheter - Cateter venoso central ⚠️⚕🆘️
.
.
What is the most appropriate puncture site? The puncture of the subclavian vein is associated with a lower risk of catheter-related bloodstream infection and deep venous thrombosis when compared to the two other sites (internal jugular and femoral). However, it is associated with a higher risk of mechanical complications, especially pneumothorax, which may be limited with the aid of ultrasonography and the experience of the professional who performs the puncture
.
.

Ever drank so much caffeine you thought your heart was going to explode? YUP 😅 I've found the perfect balance of caffeine: v8 energy drink at the beginning of the shift and a medium cup of coffee around 1am (any later and I can't sleep) 😵 New blog post coming soon about being on night shift 😴 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

This woman raised me from a baby nurse to the slightly less infantile asshole that I am today. ❤️

One of the downsides to being intubated for 5 days (having breathing / suction tubes in your mouth) is.... Thrush. Cool hey? Not.

Unfortunately, it's pretty common to get thrush on your tongue when your mouth is open for so long.
So one of the prescriptions I took home with me was Nilstat, an orange liquid that's cherry flavored that you need to take 4 times a day. It worked, but it's not exactly something I was excited about each time 😂
