Learning Basket with my 8yo. It just might just be my favourite part of the day.

We discovered a worm in our garden yesterday evening, so we made a worm habitat for it. We enjoyed observing our worm friend for the evening, and again this morning, before we released it back to the same spot in our garden. 🐛 #homeschool #charlottemasonliving #exploringnaturewithchildren #howwehomeschool #homeschoolmom #charlottemason #wildandfreechildren #rainorshinekids #simplehomeschool

My boys love for me to print out coloring pages for them. Usually it’s of a character they love, though H requested rocks and minerals this time. He enjoyed the pages so much that he wrote about rocks as well and compiled it all into a book. Now he’s got plans for a Space book too. His two favorite interests right now: rocks & minerals and Space. My favorite part of the book is where he writes that even a plain rock is extraordinary because it’s been on the earth for 100s of years! So cute.

We were so excited to start our #fiveinarow literature curriculum today! The book selections are so sweet; we hope to add some of them to our own collection (as we did for this title) and some will be borrowed from the library. This is an add on to other things we do so mostly we’re in it for the stories but I’m excited to incorporate some simple activities and other books on topic as well. So this week we’re venturing into China and learning about ducks! 🇨🇳 🦆 (And please excuse my shirtless child, we read The Emperor’s New Clothes this morning and he was testing the theory out 😆) #thestoryaboutping #howwehomeschool #readaloudrevival #readaloudfamily #gentlelearning #letthembelittle

I’m back! 👋🏻 I want to share this gem of a game I recently purchased from Amazon. It’s called Match A Track. The goal simple - match the animal to their track! It has beautiful watercolor illustrations and the cards are such high quality. It’s so lovely. “Gameschooling” is something that has oddly taken me a while to fully embrace, which is strange because my husband and I are avid game players. However, I’ve really loved playing this with the kids and watching how much they’ve learned from just a few play-throughs. Bird Bingo is next on our list to get! What other games do you guys recommend?

When you find a bag of flour at the back of the pantry thats clearly been there for a while, it’s time to make playdough! Kai is a greater helper, she stirs, she measures, and she pours! #bakingwithkids

Today was one of those mornings where all the magic happened and I did.not.plan or suggests ONE thing! .
Aryanna has been writing and illustrating books all morning and Layla Mo has been playing with playdoh, shapes, and working on free hand shape drawings and using the metal insets for help with the shapes she hasn’t mastered drawing. 📚🖍
Mornings like today, I think I have this parenting and homeschool thing down, but then again, it’s not even noon!! 😂
Happy Monday!! ☕️

From our story basket this morning: Aesop’s fable ‘The Bundle of Sticks’ which I am using to review and extend the concept of Place Value as we start on the first maths block for the year ❤️
This cave holds 1200 years of the past. From markings made by the Native Americans of the upper Mississippi, which show Rock House Cave used as the perfect winter dwelling to capture heat and protect from the north wind, to pictures from the late 1800s, which show Easter sunrise celebrations. The view is breathtaking and standing in the presence of this much history leaves you in complete awe. #travelwithkids #howwehomeschool #hikingwithkids
