Had such a great time this weekend at Crossfit Scioto for the #granitegamesthrowdown !
@jus10cox and I gave it our all and ended up first place overall 🥇. We are also currently sitting in second place 🥈 amongst all other #granitegamesthrowdown teams in the Men’s Scaled division worldwide!

Day 1/80 is in the books!!

Let me tell you, I had so much anxiety, stress, and nerves before starting this program. The concept of timed nutrition scared the hell out of me. The idea of hour long workouts scared the hell out of me. I kept thinking “what if I can’t?” “What if I don’t?” “What if I won’t?”
.
But despite all of my fears, stress, and nerves, I made sure I was in bed by 9:30pm so I would wake up early and kick off this 80 Day Challenge the right way!

I ALMOST let my fears win!🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I am SO glad I didn’t because I have officially found my new favorite workout program!!! These workouts challenged the hell out of me, but my go-go juice helped me push hard through every workout by giving me the perfect amount of energy!

I’m starting at 218.6 lbs and I absolutely CANNOT wait to see where this program takes me!!♥️🌺

Dante, that was a good one. Same moves from last week but 3 x 10 instead of 2 x 15. And, we were moving at a pretty good pace so no resting in between moves. It was challenging but I kept pushing. .

This was one of the most challenging workouts I have done with you in quite some time, AND you added combat moves that I ❤️❤️ at the end!!! I admit I had to go down in weights....maybe bc all my 🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️ and 🦂🦂 practice has my arms and shoulders screaming NOOOO!! 🤣
This couplet was super intense, but makes it so satisfying to complete! Thanks Lisa!! 😘 You create the best workouts! So ready for the new week!!!

The argument, or discussion, of whether “high” reps or “low” reps are better for muscle growth is one which, in my opinion, is ridiculous; provided volume is equated, intensity is at or above 30% of 1RM, and training near to or to muscular failure is implemented, hypertrophy will occur regardless of whether the repetitions within a given set or sets are “high” or “low”. That said, low rep training is definitely more conducive to strength gains, which can certainly mean more progression in terms of overload, and subsequently hypertrophy, in the long term (in comparison to higher rep training). But, high rep training allows for the accumulation of a higher training volume which itself is a major driver for muscle growth. BUT, high rep sets will limit the % of 1RM used, which will limit strength gains over the long term if a high rep protocol is utilised indefinitely.

For this reason it should be apparent that a mixture of rep ranges is best, as this will allow for optimal gains in hypertrophy and strength, whilst ensuring the CNS is not over taxed as is often the case when training exclusively with lower rep ranges.

Hypertrophy occurs in ALL rep ranges. So, rather than concerning ourselves with which rep range is better for growth, we should be concerning ourselves with what each rep range has to offer in terms of overall NEURAL and METABOLIC adaptations, and how this will subsequently benefit us, taking into consideration our current program and goals!
