After many sold out weekends, we finally got to the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze. It was well worth the wait and nicely rolls pumpkin season into the Holidays. #PumpkinBlaze #pumpkinblaze2017 #HHValley #pumpkinseason #thanksgivingweekend #vancortlandtmanor #croton #HistoricHudson #HudsonValley #westchestercounty #fallfeels #autumn #iloveny 🎃🎃🍁🎃🎃

This postcard depicts one of the wayfinding signs at Washington Irving's Sunnyside when the site first opened for public visitation (circa late 1940s-1950s). The figure is meant to be one of Henry Hudson's crew as described by Irving in "Rip Van Winkle": "a company of odd looking personages playing at ninepins. They were dressed in quaint outlandish fashion - some wore short doublets, others jerkins with long knives in their belts and most of them had enormous breeches [...] Their visages too were peculiar [...] The whole group reminded Rip of the figures in an old Flemish painting [...]." #ThrowbackThursday

Have you visited #Sunnyside lately?

Watch out, Ichabod Crane! 🐎🎃🍁 "It was, as I have said, a fine autumnal day; the sky was clear and serene, and nature wore that rich and golden livery which we always associate with the idea of abundance. The forests had put on their sober brown and yellow, while some trees of the tenderer kind had been nipped by the frosts into brilliant dyes of orange, purple, and scarlet."
- Washington Irving, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"
