This one is heart felt! Living the rv life we spent a week in Gettysburg PA. USA and it was quite an experience seeing first hand a piece of history. They take great pride in how they display artifacts, reinactments
and the art including sculptures just breathtaking. So with said as an artist myself I put this painting together.

The arrows mark the approximate location of the stage where Lincoln made his Gettysburg Address. In between the graves of John B. Koch (Left) & Capt. George E. Kitzmiller (Right). It is to be noted that there are many theory’s on where the stage was, and I am basing this post on the research of William A. Frassanito from his work Early Photography at Gettysburg.

Lincoln stood and gave his Gettysburg Address in the center of the picture, between the flag and the mausoleum in the trees. Currently, this is Evergreen Cemetery (formally known as Citizen's Cemetery) which neighbors the Gettysburg National Cemetery. If you have a chance to catch a Ranger's presentation at the Gettysburg National Cemetery, we absolutely recommend it! The Ranger brought to life the aftermath of the war, how the death toll impacted the small town (4 dead to 1 townsperson), how they worked to secure the land for the cemetery, and outlined the seemingly overwhelming duty to exhume, try to identify, and rebury soldiers. He also illustrated how powerful the states were at that time and how Lincoln wasn't even initially invited to the ceremony. The Governor of Pennsylvania decided to extend a last minute invitation to Lincoln and gave him a "few minutes" to speak at the end (because they had secured the 'rockstar' Edward Everett for a 2 hour oration). To note, the flag in the pic is flying over the grave of the only civilian killed during the battle. Jennie Wade was 20 years old and was kneading dough for Union soldiers when she was shot and killed instantly by a Confederate sharp shooter. The next day her mother made 15 loaves of bread with the dough she kneaded. The US Senate voted to grant her mother a pension, citing her daughter had been killed serving the Union cause (baking bread for the soldiers). Her grave has an American flag flying around the clock. The Lincoln Memorial Boulder was dedicated to Abraham Lincoln and the Union Army on June 13 1908. This 10 ton boulder was dragged by 18 horses and 100 men with ropes from the banks of the Hudson River to the front lawn of the Nyack library where it stands today. It is worth noting that the funds for the memorial were raised entirely by Nyack school children.
