Sometimes our furry babes have run-ins with pesky little fleas - instead of using a pesticide based shampoo, you have another option!

I found two of the little buggars on one of my dogs tonight, so the whole gang got a flea bath and their monthly dosage of Sentinel!
There are a few misconceptions about fleas and I want to help clear some of them up!
I was a groomer for 7 years and have seen some pretty awful flea infestations in my day! So to help avoid and/or rid your pooch of the pesky things you can follow the recipe below!
Your pet can get fleas from just visiting your yard - they don’t have to be dirty, neglected, or mangy to pick one up! Dutiful owners were always shocked when I informed them their pet had fleas, no pup is immune! Your dog can pick up a flea from your yard where an infested squirrel was, the dog park, the vet, or even your clothes if you came into contact with one!

Make sure to check your pet often (even during the winter months) to see signs of flea “dirt” (a mixture of dried blood and fecal material) or fleas themselves. The thicker your dogs hair, the harder they will be to spot! Look in the warmest spots on your dog (groin, armpits, under ears, base of tail) that’s where they love to live!

Ask your vet about oral and topical flea medication that you can treat your dog with monthly to make sure fleas stay off and the eggs, larvae, and pupae are not able to survive either.
Flea collars work, but only if the fleas walk over them - so they are not fool proof! An oral or topical is your best bet for preventing them 100%! You must also be sure to attack them at first sign - to keep them from coming back make sure to wash all of your bedding, toys, collars, and vacuum, vacuum, VACUUM to snatch up any that might be hiding in your carpets or furniture.
Peep the recipe below in case you ever need to use it yourself! ☺️ Mix a cup of white vinegar (preferably apple cider vinegar) with a cup of Dawn dish soap to a quart of warm water! (I added a cup oatmeal too to help moisturize their skin)
Then work that mixture into the coat and let sit at least five minutes!
Make sure to rinse well and towel dry! ☺️❤️
