This is a great leg exercise if the gym is packed and you don’t have access to a lot of equipment.

Try to keep tension on the leg on the bench. Try not to kick off with the other leg.

Step backwards to reinforce the hip hinge pattern.

Front loading means core activation.

Stability Ball Crunch w/ Resistance Band

I don’t do very many traditional crunches, but I like this variation because the band makes it much more difficult and effective.

The variable resistance of the band makes the contraction that much harder.
✖️
You can also increase the tension of the band as you get stronger.

Don’t try to do 100 reps. You want it to burn in as few reps as possible.

Squeeze your abs for the entire duration of the movement.

Goblet Dumbbell Squats

This is a fantastic variation for beginners, as well as seasoned lifters.

Hold the dumbbell close to the chest.
✖️
Brace your core (flex).
✖️
Hips back, then bend the knees, keep your feet firmly planted. Exhale on the way up.
✖️
Goblet squats are great, because they force you to engage your core, and they don’t really allow your torso to fall forward.
✖️
You can use a kettlebell as well.

Single-arm Dumbbell Squats

Same movement as before, but now you’re creating an offset load, and this will force your core to work a little more.
✖️
To help you stabilize, abduct your weight-less arm and clench your fist. Flex. Hard. ✖️
This will activate your central nervous system and help you recruit the necessary muscles to squat without shifting all over the place.

Dumbbell squats
✖️
This is one of many squat variations.
✖️
One thing you can do is hold the dumbbells out slightly. They’ll stay out of your way, and you can flex your lats to make the movement a little more difficult.
✖️
Sink your hips back first, then you can bend at the knees. Reach for the wall behind you with your bum.
✖️
Make sure you’re keeping your feet flat, firmly plant on the ground. If your heels leave the ground, find a bench to squat on until you master it. Your knees will thank you.
