Homemade Nut Mylk! I’ve been using store bought almond or cashew milk for about 3 years now, but it wasn’t until after my first Whole30 last year when I made the total switch! When I found out that I was dairy intolerant (always kind of knew but didn’t want to accept it), I began using only nut mylks. And for about 6 months now I’ve been making my own!

Although there is nothing wrong with most brands...UNSWEETENED that is... I just started to become aware of all the other added ingredients. Gums and preservatives are so unnecessary! And honestly making your own mylks isn’t that hard, plus you get to control and know exactly what you’re putting in your body!

All you need is 1 cup of organic raw nuts, filtered water, and a mylk bag (on Amazon for $3). Other ingredients are totally up to you! I use a few dates to sweeten mine and some sea salt. In the past I’ve used vanilla extract, raw honey, and even some high-quality cacao powder!

First step, which is a must, is to soak the nuts in water overnight. Long story short, this makes it easier for your body to digest the nuts and allows you to receive all the nutrients nuts contain. After soaking, drain and rinse the nuts, add to blender with 5 cups of filtered water, then add any other ingredients you choose, and blend for about 2 minutes! Once blended strain the pulp through the bag, transfer to a container (I use a mason jar), and store in the refrigerator. I’ve found that it lasts for about 5-6 days! •

Pro tip: the remnants found in the bag after straining is called “pulp.” What I like to do with that is spread it on a cookie sheet, lined with parchment paper, and dehydrate it in the oven at 200F for a few hours. I then quickly blend it up and store in an airtight container. This is essentially almond flour, which is great for a breadcrumbs replacement or baking paleo treats!
