Day 35. Kingsford Gate to Wootten Courtenay - 16.7 miles.

So in the days wise - I am exactly halfway through my sponsored walk around the catchment area of the Bristol Children’s Hospital. And in the distance – it is 560 miles.

I had a fabulous gift for this special occasion beautifully wrapped in a sparkling sunshine (that made my face look like I am an inginious Bedouin from Sahara) - Exmoor National Park.
Firstly, I didn’t dare to go into the hot and remote like a desert terrain due to the limited supply of water. So l kept myself in the shadow of rare trees alongside B3224 road until I got into Exford. It is only when I topped up my caffeine level and got enough liquid to survive the day, I was ready to explore the moor.

I must admit, going up the hill wasn’t easy but once I got there, I found myself between the clear blue sky and miles and miles of picturesque marvels. I also experienced there a sensational surprise crossing a visible border between a hot sunny day and straight into a cold cloud. Oh, what a day 😍

There’s nothing like walking in Devon. Found this hidden gem in the beautiful Watersmeet! #watersmeet #nationaltrust #devon #walking #exmoornationalpark #holiday #nature #countryside
Today’s painting went somewhat like this...
- Sits in chair. Pumped to paint Exmoor- I dearly love the open space (there is a story behind it, but I’ll leave that to another day...)
- First layers down and I’m dancing in my chair- the colours are singing!
- 15 minutes later 😱 too many brushstrokes!! Take me back 5 minutes...
- Now standing. Okay I didn’t expect this but think I like it...
- Wait, I didn’t know those colours made this colour?!
- No not again 😱 overworked! Argh I’m getting a cuppa...
- Reaches for large brushes...I’ll block those complicated areas out.
.
I quite like the twists and turns really- it just paints a different story! But when those first few brush strokes get laid and it just says it all- I love that most of all!
.
Have a figure still to paint into this one to complete day 15 / 100 of #rachelpainterpaints but am heading out for a campfire with my family now in the ☀️- have a great evening all!

*Gin of the Week*
Gin Cocktail - Gordon’s Pink Gin & Prosecco...a light, fresh cocktail perfect for warm sunny days. Infused with Strawberry’s and Raspberry, this is an ideal summer drink. Fevertree Elderflower Tonic is also a great accompaniment with this Gin 🍸🍓 #summertime #gin #ginandtonic #gordanspinkgin #prosecco #fevertreetonic #fevertreeelderflower #strawberries #raspberries #cocktails #tarrfarminn #exmoor #exmoornationalpark

Nothing quite like dappled light shining through freshly grown beech leaves. Exmoor's grow at the highest altitude in Britain, at up to 350 metres (1200 ft) above sea level.

Day 34. Landkey to Kingsford Gate - 14 miles.
In such a short period of time I experienced all kinds of weather and walked through the torrential rain, deep snow and now, under the hit wave which made me feel rather unwell.
Luckily, majority of my yeasturday route (still the Tarka Trail) took me alongside some small running river across the woods. It was quite muddy but better for my body and soul. .

I actually felt like I entered a wild kingdom of the thousands cheeky squirrels, male pheasants and flattering butterflies. It felt so magical so when l found an old, tilted and moss-covered bench, I lied down on it to watch the blue skies and to dream of my beautiful daughter. .

There were quite a few breath-taking hills which made my heart want to jump out but I managed these in a slow motion. And just when I thought, that l am not able to step one more time in this hit, l met my lovely friend Ros who found me a cup of coffee in the middle of nowhere, in the quirky pub called Poltimore Arms.
.

I finished at Kingsford Gate spot which is actually just a crossroad. But what a fantastic view it offers especially on the day like today ❤️ 👣👀 👣

Thought to date back to the Bronze Age, English folklore says that Tarr Steps was built by the Devil himself so that he might sunbathe upon the stones ☀️😈
