You can definitely tell it’s spring when the rabbits get so cheeky they start eating the horse feed from their dinner bowls! Australia has been at war with feral pests since white invasion of the continent. With no natural predators the Centre For Invasive Species Solutions estimates “that rabbits are a significant threat to biodiversity, affecting 304 nationally threatened plant and animal species” in March 2017 Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus was released as part of a 20 year long biocontrol program. With up to 10 million feral rabbits and over 65 years of releasing rabbit viruses into the wild, rabbits along with feral pigs, deer, dogs and cats are causing major impacts on food competition with native animals. Early mornings at Brown’s Mart theatre in downtown D-town. One of our few historical buildings still standing, it was built in 1885 from local stone. It survived the 1897 cyclone, the sustained bombing of Darwin during the Second World War, and Cyclone Tracy. What a little battler of a building!

How’s this for a morning storm front over the mudflats? It was so quiet out there, and the mangrove forest was thick with this rich, chocolatey, almost milky scent. Don’t know what it was but it smelled delicious. Scared a few egrets, which flapped elegantly away over the palm grove, and trotted back home once the distant rumblings began.
