Yet another throwback cause my Ethiopia withdrawals will NOT cease😅😭 Had to dedicate this lovely song (Just Like A Star by @corinnebaileyrae) to the beautiful newlyweds on their special day. What an honour to surprise them with this performance, and a blessing to be received so graciously by everyone there. Funky Fact: In Ethiopian culture, when you do something of value that pleases people, they slap you with money (literally). Usually it's a straight palm to the forehead, but thankfully they kindly tucked the bills into my dress as I played😂 One of the manyyyy reasons I adore the love abounding within my culture & my people. More sharing my trip to come! 🌟 @ayantu_tesfaye 💚

The industrious Dorze people are mostly farmers and renowned for their skill in weaving.

🌟Ethio -Japanese Relations🌟
(Swipe left!)
Both Ethiopia & Japan are nations with an ancient history which successfully repulsed European military advances to dominate them, Ethiopia at the Battle of Adwa, and Japan at the Battle of Tsushima, and as a result both nations considered each other potential allies prior to World War II.-
The Japanese Empire not only maintained its independence but also successfully adapted western technologies and education systems. Thanks to Emperor (Tenno) Meiji the Great who started the "Meiji Restoration" ( that was in 1868, the same year Emperor Tewodros II. of Ethiopia died in Magdala) which createdthe conditions for modernization. -
The 225th ruler of the Solomonic Dynasty Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia, and the 124th monarch of the Jimu Dynasty Emperor Hirohito of Japan, represented longstanding cultures led by royal nobility. So when it was heavily reported that Lij Araya Abebe, a nephew of the Ethiopian Emperor was about to marry the japanese noble lady Kuroda Masako, it caused great trepidation among the European powers -
Both countries signed a Treaty of Friendship and Commerce in 1930. The next year, Ethiopia reached out to her potential Asian ally when Ethiopian Foreign Minister Heruy Welde Sellase visited Japan in 1931.
A lot of the ethiopian progressive intellectuals by that time (1920s,1930s)are known as "Japanizers"-
However, on the eve of the Second Italo-Ethiopian War, when Ethiopia most needed Japanese help, the Japanese government decided to back its Axis ally, Italy.-
That stirred up a furor inside Japan, where there had been much sympathy for Ethiopia.
Japanese ultra-nationalists, wishing to lead an alliance of the "colored peoples" of the world, believed that Ethiopia would play a crucial role in that alliance.-
In 1955, Japan and Ethiopia re-established diplomatic ties which were close until Emperor Haile Selassie I. was overthrown and replaced by the Derg. 🌟

I stalked @henryholtbooks for an early copy of this book months ago. I read it immediately and haven’t stopped thinking about it since. Now on bookstore shelves, THE PARKING LOT ATTENDANT is the mesmerizing coming-of-age story about a girl in Boston's tightly-knit Ethiopian community who falls under the spell of a charismatic hustler out to change the world.

In 2012, I co-founded a young professionals board for the Ethiopian Community Association of Chicago (@chicagohabeshas) because there was a need to help young adult Ethiopians connect with one another, while promoting and supporting Ethiopian culture and the local community.

Ethiopia Fest was designed to bring our culture to light in the Chicago area. We only had five or less vendors the first year. Five years later, the festival is being sponsored by @fly.ethiopian and will feature Fendika dance group from Ethiopia! Needless to say, I'm so proud to see this group of amazing, passionate, and dedicated individuals continuing to help the community move forward! Mama is proud of you all and cheering you on from the motherland! YOU GUYS ROCK!!! @seblinaa @diborabora1 @embibelgebre @nadi_nad_ @abseram @uplmahi @rasmulu @dani_exodus85 🇪🇹💛😭😍👏 .
