Day 15: Have you ever had one of those days where you start to really think what life is really about? Or what are you doing? Or why you are in the situation that you are in? There is a reason why you are where you are at in this point in your life, but you can't just sit there, go with the motions, and ride it out. You are there for a reason, so make the most of it. Allow God to use you, and make the most out of you. You never know, maybe something you pick up or learn during this down time will be a great tool to help you or someone else in the future.
Good morning 🕺🏼🕺🏼 Enjoy the effect of our brow shadows! It’s really easy to apply and you decide all on your own how bold you want them to be. The easier on the hand, the lighter the effect. 💫💫

On #ThisDayInHistory, 16 January 1605, the first edition of El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha (Book One of Don Quixote) by Miguel de Cervantes is published in Madrid, Spain.

Don Quixote, fully titled The Ingenious Nobleman Sir Quixote of La Mancha (Spanish: El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha, is a Spanish novel by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Published in two volumes, in 1605 and 1615, Don Quixote is considered the most influential work of literature from the Spanish Golden Age and the entire Spanish literary canon. As a founding work of modern Western literature and one of the earliest canonical novels, it regularly appears high on lists of the greatest works of fiction ever published, such as the Bokklubben World Library collection that cites Don Quixote as the authors' choice for the "best literary work ever written". The story follows the adventures of a noble (hidalgo) named Alonso Quixano who reads so many chivalric romances that he loses his sanity and decides to set out to revive chivalry, undo wrongs, and bring justice to the world, under the name Don Quixote de la Mancha. He recruits a simple farmer, Sancho Panza, as his squire, who often employs a unique, earthy wit in dealing with Don Quixote's rhetorical orations on antiquated knighthood. Don Quixote, in the first part of the book, does not see the world for what it is and prefers to imagine that he is living out a knightly story. Throughout the novel, Cervantes uses such literary techniques as realism, metatheatre, and intertextuality. The book had a major influence on the literary community, as evidenced by direct references in Alexandre Dumas' The Three Musketeers (1844), Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884), and Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac (1897), as well as the word "quixotic" and the epithet "Lothario"; the latter refers to a character in "El curioso impertinente" ("The Impertinently Curious Man"), an intercalated story that appears in Part One, chapters 33–35.

Shops like these selling day to day commodities are often passed down from generation to generation in the Kannur market area, which, in time, has become an integral part of people's life.

To kick off my time photographing in East L.A I wanted to begin with a story. Making my way down the heart of this community on Whittier Blvd, a police officer stopped me dead in my tracks and said, “hey! where are you from?” I replied, “I live in Downtown.” The officer replied with, “do you know where you are? If you walk two blocks in that direction, you will be punched in the face and your camera will be stolen, you need to leave this part of town.” Of course this officer wasn’t aware that I had already been photographing neighborhoods that were a little more daunting than the one I was seeing on Whittier Blvd. Officer says, “be my guest if you want to be robbed and keep walking around here with that camera.” This particular person had a horrible attitude towards me. I'll give this cop the benefit of the doubt and say they were having a bad day. Of course I kept walking around and to my disbelief…. nothing happened. It was just normal people living normal lives. However, I asked myself a few questions while walking. What does this say about East Los Angeles? What does this say about the attitudes of the police who patrol this area? Is the only time you hear about East L.A in the news is when its attached to a headline? This got me thinking about my time in Boyle Heights and the moment I crossed 1st Street Bridge having a rough idea of what to expect and knowing its reputation for being in the news. But when I got there, it was the absolute nicest and warmest community of people I have ever seen in all of Los Angeles. All in all, I hope my results can reflect what life is like on the East Side.
