Thank you so much to everyone who came out last night and sent such sweet messages yesterday. I woke up this morning feeling overwhelmed in the best way possible. This work means more to me than I can say. And the love and support I felt last night has really left me speechless.
A particular thanks to Klowden Mann. This work wouldn’t be possible without Deb’s support and vision. And a huge thank you to Eric Johnson, whose serious woodworking and installation skills made this all happen.
The Narrows continues through February 17.

Please join us at Klowden Mann on Saturday Jan 13, 6 PM for the opening of The Narrows: an exhibition of new work based on ongoing research from the Ellis Island archives. The exhibition is inspired by first hand immigrant stories of those who came through Ellis, predominantly arriving prior to the passing of the Johnson Reed Act of 1924: which excluded Asian immigrants and greatly restricted entry of southern and Eastern Europeans in efforts to “preserve the ideal of American homogeneity”. The current day echo of this dark time in our history is haunting and terrifying. This work means a lot to me for many reasons. It is not only a significant part of American history, but more personally is the arrival story of my own family. I sincerely hope you can join us for the opening.
We will also hold an artists talk at the gallery on Sunday January 21st at 2 PM, where we will discuss in more depth the various aspects of the research and the work. We are holding this on Sunday in light of the Women’s March on Saturday.

Artist Sketchbook. From the hike today at the Colorado National Monument. An Art teacher once advised me to do 30 second contour drawings as a way to smooth out the "hand" for watercolor brushwork. As a result line drawing became my favorite method of drawing.
The Mandala series I am producing is an exercise in precision technical work. To get out in nature and do some organic loose drawing - away from the computer screen - is a refreshing interval
