34 years ago, “A Chorus Line” became the longest-running show in the history of Broadway, surpassing a record previously held by “Grease.” The show marked the milestone with fitting theatricality. 332 dancers who had previously appeared in “A Chorus Line” traveled “from the 4 continents to which they dispersed, from stardom and unemployment lines,” to star in the show’s 3,389th performance, @nytimes reported the next day. The show was “part celebration, part reunion and part theatrical history,” our article explained. But there were 2 things the performance was not: easy and inexpensive. @nytimes reported that the special performance and ensuing celebratory supper for 2,500 guests required 3 months of planning and cost $450,000. Wendy Mansfield, the show’s stage manager, spent weeks trying to find 457 members of past casts. She told @nytimes she found former performers in London, Tokyo, Australia and West Germany, and in corners of the United States stretching from Ashland, Oregon, all the way to Jupiter, Florida. Some were starring in their own TV shows; others were waiting tables or looking for jobs. Photographer @fredrconrad took this photo of some of the dancers from past and previous casts using the Booth Theater as a dressing room for the performance, which took place at the Shubert Theater in September 1983. This photo appeared on the front page of @nytimes the following day. — @jlynnanderso, @nytimes social editor #Broadway #hats #hatterist #headwear #hatgame #headdress #beauty #photography #lips #eyes #millinery #makeup #style #tophat #showtime #womenswear @nytarchives

Debuting as Roxie Hart on Broadway was a wild, crazy dream come true! I'll never forget last night.

I’m very, very grateful in my 12 years living here in NYC, I’ve gotten to see countless shows. But it is still incredibly rare to see a show that not only is indescribably extraordinary, but is heralded as such - AND lives up to that hype. @dearevanhansen is one of those diamonds. Unforgettable, still unpacking it all. Go see it.

It was great to see the Phantom of the Opera at the Boston Opera House. This beautiful venue was totally remodeled in 2004 and is now used exclusively for Broadway theater and the Boston Ballet, not Opera.
