It was on this day February 21st that one of the greatest moments in musical history occurred. The birth of the legendary Dr Nina Simone. Her music and activism has always been and continues to inspire me every single day. Her passion, her perseverance, her dedication, her activism, her politics, her power of character, her art, her voice: make her the woman who will be remembered always. My father introduced me to her music when I was just a child and I will raise my children with her music also. Nina Simone you are forever a legend. Stay resting peacefully, your music will sing our always. Peace and love beautiful friends x #ninasimone #ninasimonebirthday #drninasimone #legend #musician #lilybud #lilybudmusic #lilybudlondon #feelinggood #birdsflyinghighyouknowhowifeel #loveandsupport #standtogether #musiclegend #blm #activism #history #powerful #powerfulwomen #workhard #singer #studio #singing #cover #peaceandlove

I also gotta give a Happy Belated Born Day salute to West Coast hip hop luminary Dr. Dre, who turned 53 this past weekend. Arguably the most important and influential producer in hip hop history, Dre's pioneering sonic vision helped shape the sound of West Coast gangsta rap and "G-Funk" in the late '80s and early '90s (first as a member of N.W.A and later as a solo entity during the classic era of the infamously controversial Death Row Records), producing numerous albums that have continued to hold up as hip hop classics over the years, including his own triple-platinum-selling solo debut The Chronic (1992), Snoop Doggy Dogg's Doggystyle (1993), Eazy-E's Eazy-Duz-It (1988), The D.O.C.'s No One Can Do It Better (1989) and N.W.A's two full-length masterpieces, Straight Outta Compton (1988) and Efil4zaggin (1991), respectively. Prior to joining N.W.A, Dre got his start as a member of the World Class Wreckin' Cru, an old school hip hop/electro group that also included fellow N.W.A member DJ Yella. Following his split from Death Row in 1996, Dre founded his own label, Aftermath Entertainment, which has since been responsible for multiple massively successful releases from Eminem, 50 Cent, The Game, Kendrick Lamar and more; Dre also released his classic SIX TIMES PLATINUM-certified solo follow-up to The Chronic, 2001, in late 1999 . A host of other artists have been signed to Aftermath at one point or another, recording material that ultimately ended up being shelved, including Rakim, Raekwon, King Tee, Eve, Joell Ortiz and Bishop Lamont. Frustratingly enough, Dre has also scrapped his long-anticipated Detox project after more than a decade of delays. Despite his reluctance to put the album out, Dre has remained significantly active in music, with a long résumé of production credits that has included work for 2Pac, Jay-Z, Nas, Scarface, Xzibit, Busta Rhymes, Devin The Dude, Ras Kass, Rick Ross, Mary J. Blige, Gwen Stefani, Alicia Keys and a ton of others. (continued)

Oops I forgot to update my ins earlier lol...Happy be-lated Chinese New Year! (it's so funny that I was late last year too 😂)
During New Year time, a lot of people will eat rice cake (nowadays there are many fancy ones as well), do you know why people like to eat during this time? Haha it's because that in Chinese, "getting taller/higher every year" has the same pronunciation as rice cake (年糕,諧音:年高) , so it's like a nice New Year wish~
In the picture, it is the homemade fancy rice cake with peanut and red bean. Originally stored in the freezer, I dipped it in egg and pan-fried it until it became soft. SO good! 👌😄
Welcome the Year of Dog!!! 🐶

Gotta give a Happy Belated Born Day salute to legendary hip hop star and accomplished actor Ice-T, who turned 60 last week. Drawing from his own experiences as a pimp, drug dealer and car thief in his younger years living in South Central Los Angeles (where he relocated from his birthplace in New Jersey after both of his parents died), Ice emerged as an original pioneer of gangsta rap in the early '80s. While his debut studio album, Rhyme Pays, came out in 1987, he had already started building up a solid run of 12" singles since 1983; these songs (including "The Coldest Rap" and "6 N The Mornin'") are among the earliest notable rap records to come from the West Coast. Ice then went on to release four gold-selling albums and one platinum, becoming known as a street-smart artist who kicked knowledge while also sparking controversy and rallying against censorship at the same time. He additionally started a heavy metal band, Body Count, in the early '90s, generating much highly publicized controversy with the song "Cop Killer" in 1992, ultimately leading to the track being taken off the band's self-titled debut album. Since then, Ice's musical output has mostly taken a backseat to his far more successful and prolific acting career, beginning with a major role in the 1991 urban crime classic New Jack City and culminating with his starring role on the long-running TV drama series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (which he has been doing since 2000); interestingly enough, Ice plays a cop in both roles. He is also known for several different reality show appearances, and in 2012 he proved his hip hop ties were still strong with his directorial debut, the well-received documentary Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap. Inspired by the film, Ice hosted The Art Of Rap concert festival tour in 2015 (which I attended in Mountain View, CA; SO many legendary artists were in the house!) and hinted at it being an annual affair; I was also in attendance at a somewhat scaled-down version of the event the following year here in San Francisco, where Ice co-headlined with Public Enemy! Happy West Coast Wednesday y'all....
