Dreaming of Venice 💘
Absolutely fascinating day walking around Pompeii today. The amount of history here is hard to comprehend 🌋.
Amman Citadel, Jebel Al Qala’a (about 850m above sea level), Jordan 🇯🇴. The site of ancient Rabbath-Ammon, known as "The Citadel", sits on the highest hill in Amman.
The two giant standing pillars are the remains of the Roman Temple of Hercules. Once connected to the Forum (downtown), the temple was built during the reign of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius (AD 161–80). The only obvious remains are parts of the podium and the columns, which are visible from around town. There’s also a rather touching remnant of a stone-carved hand, which shows the level of detail that would have adorned the temple in its glory days. Nearby is a lookout with sweeping views of the downtown area.

Considered one of the best preserved Roman cities, Jerash is an ancient city in Jordan that has been around since the Neolithic period (7500-5500 BC). It’s home to some amazing ruins such as the Temple of Zeus and Temple of Artemis.

Near our place there's the beautiful Moor Abbey. First found in 1200, it has been destroyed more than once and rebuilt. The franciscans friars who decided to keep on staying in the building were sadly massacred. 😕 In the left back's corner is a tomb probably belonged to the very first founder, Donald o' Brian.

Surrounded by fields of wet green grass, the Abbey rises in her magnificence and you can't help falling in love, feeling as paralysed.

I put my hand on one of the icy stones, closed my eyes and it was like being in the past, as if I could hear their voices, as if I could see the friars getting in and out of the main door. The relaxing atmosphere surrounding the place is priceless and breathtaking.

If you ever pass near Galbally , don't forget this worthy spot! 😄
