My wife and I have to write our names on our BCAA (amino acids) jars -- so that we don't steal each other's stash! 😂😂😂

Love BCAAs especially while doing Intermittent Fasting... ...It prevents you from losing muscle mass during your fast AS WELL AS gives you a boost of energy when taken before your workout!

I take 15g twice a day of the stuff and do not take protein shakes & it's GREAT to take while on KETO because one has like 5g of carbs & the other is 0g of carbs.

BCAA's vs EAA's
.
As referred to on a previous post, branched-chain amino acids (BCAA's) are the three amino acids: Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine and are essential nutrients from proteins found in most protein rich foods. "Branched-chain amino acids stimulate the building of protein in muscle and possibly reduce muscle breakdown.”
.
But what about EAA’s?
Essential Amino Acids (EAA’s) are the 9 amino acids that cannot be synthesized by the body and thus must be obtained through diet.
.
They are:
-Isoleucine
-Histidine -Methionine
-Lysine
-Phenylalanine
-Tryptophan
-Threonine
-Valine
.
As you see these EAA's will also contain the three BCAA's so what's the difference? Well, while studies do show that the three BCAA's are most "anabolic" (muscle building) and also have been shown to increase the amount of Nitrogen stored in the muscle which in turn will minimize the amount of muscle lost after rigorous exercise and dieting.
.
Simply taking just those three amino acids(BCAA) is like sending a basketball team out to play with just a point guard. You need all the essential amino acids to really make a difference.
Unless you are ingesting a high protein diet*.
.
As stated before the EAA's are not able to be synthesized by the body (mainly through the liver) and therefor must be ingested through diet or supplementation. If you are ingesting enough protein than essentially you will be getting enough of the Amino Acids needed for protein synthesis. .
So what's the difference?
.
Most BCAA supplements will have a higher amount of the 3 amino acids most anabolic to allow for more nitrogen retention than an EAA supplement. So if your budget allows, it is recommended to take both. ESPECIALLY if you are on a calorie restricted diet or involved in a muscle building workout routine.

EAA's are better utilized in the body pre-training.

BCAA's are better utilized during or after training to allow better recovery.
