In this painting, the vibrant colors of the Indian’s garments contrast with the chartreuse colors of the landscape. Couse’s technique is painterly, with bold, loose brushstrokes sustained by his remarkable ability to capture natural light.

We wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!

As a tribute to a day dedicated to kindness and blessings, we share with you this "First Thanksgiving at Plymouth"! It was painted in 1914 by Jennie Augusta Brownscombe, an artist who specialized in such emblematic scenes of early American history.

Historically, Thanksgiving stems simply from the tradition of having "days of giving thanks" on the occasion of particularly favorable events, a tradition brought on the American continent by English Protestants.
Despite the painting's title, it would be extremely difficult to determine the exact date and place of the "first Thanksgiving" in America.

But the tradition have nonetheless become associated with a celebration organized in 1621 by the Pilgrims in Plymouth, for their abundant, and much-needed, harvest.

The celebrations lasted for almost three days and was marked by the participation of a large group of Native Americans (some of them can be seen in the painting) who brought food and gifts!
